</p><p>The new stub installer allows you to choose 32-bit or 64-bit if you have 64-bit Windows 7 or later. Not sure if this new stub installer fully works with 32-bit Windows 7, 8, 10.

</p><p>I got a notification of an update for the wrong channel -- I have the standard release, but I got a notification for the extended support release (esr). If yours also tried to get the ESR version instead of Firefox 53, that could explain why it didn't work.
