On startup, a typo in the password does not result in a query for new/retry password

I believe this /issue/ is the result of a program change or recent update.

In the morning, my typing skills are not 100%, and so occasionally, I do not type my password correctly. In the past, the program would try to get mail, and if it could not, it would tell me AND would prompt me to Retry or Enter New Password.

Now, it just lies dormant. I know it's my fault for the typo, but the prompt to reenter the password is sorely missed.

I close Thunderbird, open it again, and be more careful. That works. But if you could restore the Retry/New Password prompt, that would be better.

Thunderbird will prompt for the password if the e-mail server tells Thunderbird the password is wrong. It sounds like that the e-mail server is not doing this, so Thunderbird doesn't know that the password is wrong.

It could be that the e-mail server is set up this way intentionally to try to keep people from trying to guess someone's password endlessly until they get it right.

Yahoo is the server, and for many years it has been behaving differently. I suppose it could be Yahoo, but (I'm not a programmer) it seems that the error message is arriving, but not the prompt by Thunderbird.

Yahoo is currently causing a lot of people a lot of headaches recently, mainly people using POP.

You don't know that Yahoo is sending that error message or not.

Given the state of Yahoo e-mail these days, I'm not surprised by anything that is not working right for Yahoo e-mail accounts.

What I said about the e-mail server being set up this way intentionally to try to keep people from trying to guess someone's password endlessly, certainly can apply to a big e-mail provider like Yahoo.
