Firefox and all other browsers I've tried are crashing. Firefox is the one I use.

Occasional browser crashing started late 2012. TCP/IP stack repair fixed the problem at the time. However, crashing has become increasing worst since then. Now all browsers crash most of the time. I often have to restore several times on the same website. Have used several different antivirus and malware scans. System appears to be clean. Using on-board Intel G31 express chip set for video. Latest driver is installed. Tried using an Asus A675PS PCI express video card. No difference in crash behavior. Used CCleaner on the registry and system. Used SFC scannow.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

I've used tools such as Event Viewer and can get error codes, etc., but was unable to find out online what they mean. All of my crashes over the past few months have been EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ or EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE or EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT. The 5 latest crash reports are

thanks, due to the wide (&apparently random) range of signatures i'd suspect that this may be due to faulty hardware. could you please run a tool like from memtest.org and/or https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff700221.aspx in order to check the integrity of your RAM?

i should mention that It is extremely rare for programs other than the browsers to crash.

Over several months I've ran the Windows memory test several times and just finished running Memtest86 v.4.3.7. No errors were ever found. I've also done things like putting the virtual RAM on another drive, and clearing the RAM to provide substantial free RAM. The following from the Windows Event Viewer is fairly common for each crash.

Source = schannel Event ID = 36888 Fatal Error = 51 Error State = 804

I was able to find out that the event ID 36888 is usually due to a user trying to access a web site using HTTP but specifies an SSL port in the URL. The error 51 means a TLS decrypt error, so the client may be unable to verify the final encrypt message.

I could not find anything in my internet settings corresponding to the above. Probably because my expertise in dealing with these types of problems is somewhat limited.
