So I just installed an addon that has disabled EVERYTHING.

I'm using Firefox 39 (because the newer ones crashed so often). Its been great. So I found this addon that was supposed to open the browser in fullscreen. Well it did that except it was blank. Sound worked but that's it. Just blank. I can't go back to normal view. Who could make such utter rubbish? So I'm wondering how I can disable it because I can't even bring up Options now. I don't want to lose all my settings.

Could you try starting up in Firefox's Safe Mode? As you may know, in Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates your extensions, which would avoid this extension running.

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, you would hold down option/alt)

A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Next open the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then find the problem extension on the right side and Remove it. If there is no Remove button: the extension was installed in a shared location and if you can mention its name, that would help in figuring out where that might be.

What Extension is this as are you sure the version of the Extension is marked as compatible with the old Firefox 39.0 ?

Thank you very much. I'll have to remember that. How the maker of this atrocious piece of software could ever release it is beyond understanding.

You would think that it wouldn't allow it to be installed in any version that it wasn't compatible with! But maybe not. Maybe we're supposed to be psychic.  :)
