How to restore an old Firefox session if Session Restore is not working properly?
Using Win XP - on a Pentium 4 PC Firefox 17.9 ESR (I know this is an outdated version, but I have to use this version so my Robo-form filler will work. When I attempted to upgrade Firefox, Robo-form stopped working. I can not afford a new version of Robo-form right now.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
When I woke today my previous firefox session was gone. I had 2 windows open before closing the last session. I may have closed them in the wrong order; I can't remember. I do have "show my last session when opening Firefox" selected in options > Preferences. This has happened before and I was always able to go to "History" and select restore all windows. This time all that was greyed out. Once before, a long time ago, this same thing happened and I was able to use a Windows restore Point and everything was fine afterward. This time it did not work. I went back 2 more days to select a different Restore Point, and that didn't work. So I restored Windows back to the present.
Now I'm looking for a solution that does not involve using sessionstore.bak, because it does not contain the previous session that I'm looking for. However, there are a number of files in my Firefox profile folder named sessionstore-1.js, sessionstore-2.js, etc, thru sessionstore-12.js ; All with different dates ranging from 10 days ago to more than a year ago. I do know about the Session Manager add-on, but am unsure if this app will allow me to select a previous session that was there before the add-on installation. I also know about https://firefox-session-restore.herokuapp.com/ , but that site seems to be offline. And then there's the http://nicbedford.co.uk/software/systemrestoreexplorer/ which I read does not support Win XP very well or not at all. Although in some places it lists System Restore Explorer as winXP compatible. After reading numerous articles about Session Restore I have not been able to clearly discern the correct fix. I realize now, that if I had done things differently to begin with, this would have been a lot easier. However, I am confident that you guys will be able to help me put things right! It looks as though Firefox has been having a problem updating your sessionstore.js file for quite a while.
You could try this:
- Exit Firefox
- Rename sessionstore.js to sessionstore.old (or whatever, since it's not useful)
- Right-click sessionstore-12.js and Copy, then right-click a blank area of the folder and Paste, then right-click > Rename that copy to sessionstore.js
When you start Firefox, it should use that renamed file and roll you back about 10 days.

You could try this:
