I had the combination Greasemonkey and script Social Fixer v15 (SFX) installed and working great in Comodo IceDragon. But an update to CID destroyed everything--installed a default profile. Other one gone. My online backup still backs up Firefox, not CID (yeah, my bad...and I am a backup nut).

So, back using Firefox. But when I install GM and SFX script (multiple times), there is no evidence at all that it is running. None of the effects that it does are in effect and a control button it puts on the screen does not appear.

How do I troubleshoot this? And why did it work so well in CID but not here?

I found the culprit after hours (ugh) of work. An extension Custom Buttons was causing it, but reinstall of the ext cleared the problem.

While you are on Facebook, could you click the little drop-down triangle next to the monkey face on the Firefox toolbar and confirm:

(1) There is a checkmark next to Enabled on the first line (if not, click that) (2) Social Fixer is listed and has a checkmark (if not checked, click it)

If you changed anything, reload the page to see whether it made any difference.

Assuming all is enabled, hmm, I don't use this script so I really don't know what might be wrong.

Also, your Firefox identified itself to the forum as version 38. An update is available: this article describes how to get Firefox 48.0 (or if you use the Extended Support Release version, Firefox 45.3.0esr) using the "About Firefox" dialog on the help menu: Update Firefox to the latest release.

If something is holding you back from upgrading, please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds. Version 38 is not secure; Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release.

Sometimes Firefox reports the wrong version because that information was saved in a preferences file. If the "About Firefox" dialog (see first article link) shows a current version, you may need to clear out that incorrect information. See: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

1) There is a checkmark next to Enabled on the first line (if not, click that) Yes

(2) Social Fixer is listed and has a checkmark (if not checked, click it) Does not appear in the dropdown, but is in User Scripts in Add-ons and shows as enabled. And I can bring it up to edit there...so it is 'somewhere' but it does not show in the dropdown--if it is supposed to.

CORRECTION---it is there and checked--I was not on Facebook page.

I am on 38.5.1. if that matters. I got tired of extensions being broken by new versions.

OK, so I installed v45esr. a. Firefox now takes 62 seconds to appear onscreen after 'open' is commanded.

b. "one or more extensions have been disabled..."

Read a. again. Tried 3x with stopwatch. Pretty much makes Firefox unusable. And as I said before, my CID destroyed all settings, extensions etc and I have to do a LOT mostly because of vision problems. now Firefox take over a minute to even appear.

Yeah. Maybe I should quit for the night. No telling what will happen if I continue.

Oh, the GM script DOES work in v45--after it opens.

I don't know what Firefox 45 is doing at startup. In newer versions, if you have Firefox set to clear history at shutdown and that is interrupted for some reason, it runs at startup. But otherwise, ??

For Social Fixer, it's possible FB serves a slightly different page in Firefox 38 than in Firefox 45, or that Greasemonkey or the script works a bit differently. Could be tough to sort out with just the developer tools to play with.
