How to prevent the XUL Runner version error after updates when program file (firefox.exe) is renamed?
A poorly behaved program (Sketchup) launches infinite browser windows when certain plugins are enabled. As a workaround I was forced to rename the firefox executable to prevent unwanted URLs self-launching. This works well enough, except of course when firefox updates as it does regularly, and renames the executable back to default again, giving an XUL version error. Is there another known workaround or way to fix this issue that will not require renaming the executable after each update? I gather the only way now to scrub the default browser setting in Windows 8 and beyond is via a registry hack? I guess it'd be more relevant posting this on Sketchup and Microsoft support forums as it is clearly not an issue caused by Firefox. I'll do that instead, but any advice would still be appreciated.
