I am using revision 42.0, Frontier is my provider, switching search engines does not alleviate the problem. In the middle of a session my browser switches to "Untrusted Connection". From that point until I give up and try later I am unable to make any connection. The Technical Details says: Ixquick.com (or whomever) uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for security.frontier.com (Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)

Sometimes I am given the option "I understand the risks" and sometimes I am not. I don't know if this is a Mozilla problem or a Frontier problem. Can you help, please?

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

This Connection is Untrusted is sometimes caused because the computer system clock is wrong. Check the time / date / time zone settings.

FredMcD:

Thank you, great tips! Since my post this morning, I found that Internet Explorer had the same issue. I have recently removed and reloaded Avast to get rid of some of the Avast baggage that I inadvertently loaded. This morning I was able to locate and reload my preferences from the deleted Avast program and, so far, things are working normal.

Your tip "There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate" may have hit the nail on the head.

Thank you!

The problem, though persistent, was intermittent. I am a little reluctant to say the the issue is resolved just yet.

I work with a fellow Frontier user (neighboring city) that had a similar issue a week ago. I just received a note from him that his wife "worked with [Frontier] tech support, they released the"captive portal" and now it works so far no more issues.

One further note: I updated my Firefox browser the same day that I reloaded Avast. I know better better than that. However I was able to eliminate Firefox by temporarily switching to that horrid Microsoft thingy.
