why do your passwords and tabs get deleted by automatic updates?

Why has the most recent update deleted all my tabs and passwords? It has caused hours of work for me when I was happy with how it worked before. Please don't tell me I have to sign up to 'sync' for these to be reinstated.

Thanks

Updates should only update Firefox files. Are there any other issues?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Note: Edge on Win10 does not use ActiveX version but its own Flash.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Flash Player Version 19.0.0.226

Note: Windows users must download the “Internet Explorer” and “Plugin-based browsers” installers.

Sometimes after an update Firefox starts slowly and presents the option to speed up Firefox by restoring some default settings. If you click that button, Firefox performs a Refresh, which moves your settings folder to the desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder. Do you see anything like that? If so, there's a reasonable chance of restoring missing data from that folder.

(Refresh is designed to retain your last session windows and tabs, as well as passwords, but glitches happen...)
