Is "Speed Addon" a valid addon from Mozilla?
I just noticed this addon, and I'm pretty sure I didn't install it manually. There is no option to see additional info, I can only disable or remove it. Should I be suspicious? See screenshot for addon version info. Thanks!

Yes, be suspicious. I don't see that add-on listed at the official add-ons website. My advice is to remove it.

Thank you edmeister, I have removed it. Firefox runs as slowly as ever, so its removal hasn't changed anything ;)

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.
