certain links within the search result could be opened but some couldnt.

i checked with other browsers, yes, all search results can be opened.

i think the "W" logo on the tab caused the problem but i dont know what the hell it is.

  • i already disabled all the addons yet the problem still persisted and i'm using the latest version of firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

TQ for your swift reaction. Here's the screen cap.

This problem happened suddenly without me changing/installing any new prog/settings. Maybe some of the pages i visited caused it. I just completed full avira system scan yet nothing new seemed to cause this issue.

What is the address of the web page?

more options

That W logo appeared whenever an address could not be opened, no matter what the address would be. when a page can be opened that certain website would have its own icon.

that tab that cannot be opened, when i view its source, its empty. not a single line.

TQ

You did not post the link you had the problem with. I had to enlarge the picture you posted.

burrsalagump3.wapka.mobi/music/view/12574279

I get a blank page also. Wait, is that link for a mobile device? burrsalagump3.wapka.mobi

I also get a blank page with wapka.com

What are you searching for? What is your search string?

really sorry for not posting the link.

i searched for this phrase "wali mats" using google.

i dont know if it was a link for a mobile device, but before it can be opened. and it can be opened in google chrome. using the same search term.

  • if i could ask, do u know what the "W" icon represent?

- is it has anything to do with a certain program/add-ons/malware, - or does it originally come firefox - or is there something taking over the firefox search operation (ie the things associated with that W icon) in the background without me knowing

TQ

The site name starts with a W so . . . . .

See if there is a problem using these links;

Bing; https://www.bing.com/search?q=wali+mats&pc=MOZI&form=MOZSBR

Google; https://www.google.com/search?q=wali+mats&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Yahoo; https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=wali+mats&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001

i tried the three links. Though producing different search results, i found that certain links gave me that "W", so, could not be opened. and such sites were more or less related to the ones that could not be opened by google (which produces many links to such sites that produces "W" tab).

Now i realised one thing while using malwarebytes a while back (already scanned the system, cleaned it, but now i removed it) one of the links that produced W result was blocked by the malwarebytes. and then i found this from the other firefox support questions (quoting):

"Does it say:

Blocked: May contain a virus or spyware — example.com

That message most likely is generated by the Safe Browsing filter, which is a service based on site reputation data from Google. Something changed recently and this service is blocking many more sites.

Unlike the download block notice in Google Chrome, Firefox does not currently have a button to override the block. That is under consideration for a future version.

Currently, the only workaround for this is to temporarily turn off Safe Browsing, do the download, then turn it back on again.

The setting is here: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security panel It's the checkbox for "Block reported attack sites"

ref: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1054389"

I tried untick the block reported attack sites, however it still not working.

So, based on what experienced here, i think that the sites i tried to visit may have been blocked (since it's mp3 site maybe) by something and that something has infiltrated firefox and thus blocking me.

is it correct?

nevertheless this thing happened only on firefox, it's a shame bcos i dont know how to use chrome as good as i do with firefox nor i think that chrome is as good with their add-ons.

TQ

Copy the links you are having problems with, and post them below. The only way to settle this is to check those links.

ic. thank u sir for ur effort. it's good to confirm it's not my browser is at fault.

However, i think it's safe to suggest the problem lies at firefox since other browser could open the addresses.

but i'm not gonna be bothered about it, and i hope this thread will be still be open in any case of new solution arises to this issue...

TQ so much and good day
