Firefox 40.0.2 for Mac says that it can not install a security patch because my account does not have permission. I only have one account on my Mac, and it is authorized to install software. Firefox said to contact my System Administrator, but I do not have a System Administrator account. I recently replaced the hard drive on my MacBook laptop, and I went to an Apple Store to get an O/S installed. I have O/S 10.7.5.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop

- Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data like bookmarks when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.
Firefix 40.0.2 (and 40.0.3) does not appear in my Applications folder or in my Dock. To start it, I need to go to Finder and search for Firefox (I think it's in the Downloads folder), then I need to double-click on the Firefox 40.0.2.dmg file. This brings-up a small window named Firefox with the Firefox icon, an arrow which points to the Applications folder icon, and the Applications folder icon. Then, I double-click the Firefox icon to start Firefox. The Firefox icon then appears on my dock at the bottom of the screen. After about 15-20 sec., a small window appears saying "'Firefox' is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" I click the "open" button, and then Firefox starts.
If you could please tell me how I can have Firefox appear in the Applications Folder and on my Dock, I would really appreciate it greatly. When I installed Firefox 40.0.3, Firefox 40.0.2 was not in my Applications folder, so I couldn't trash Firefox 40.0.2. I just doubleclicked on the Firefox 40.0.3 file and it installed, but the Firefox 40.0.3 icon did not appear in the Applications folder or in the Dock. I have to start it the same way I described that I start Firefox 40.0.2. Please tell me how I can have the Firefox 40.0.3 icon appear in the Applications folder and on my dock.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.
