Firefox keeps crashing, even when not in use. What's the problem?

Firefox will crash several times per day, even while not apparently in use (?). What's with that? I keep allowing the program to collect and send the crash reports, but they seem to go into a void. Getting pretty irritated with this. Anyone have an idea?

Submitted crash reports are intended to improve the product, not to "help" the individual user. We can look at your crash reports to see what the probable cause is.

Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

To be honest, neither can I. Nevertheless, I will have a desktop view, with nothing running (that I know of), and try to start another program and will get a popup saying that Mozilla Firefox has crashed, do I want to recover or quit? What's more, it would be long after I had closed any browser I was using - even Internet Explorer.

This is really starting to bug me.

You can check in the Windows Task Manager that Firefox closes properly and that there are no Firefox and plugin-container processes left.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

How about those Crash Report ID's?

Hi again, maybe is the Norton Toolbar extension, please check if you have the same behavior in firefox safe mode.

Also if in firefox safe mode you don't have any positive difference try to deactivate Norton security for a while and check it again.

Maybe not related but you can try that also, delete the user.js file in your profile folder.

The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).

thank you
