'Select file to upload' dialog not opening - How can I solve it?

Veröffentlicht

Firefox does not open the 'Select File' dialog box if I click on the 'Select Files' button on websites. Websites I tried include virustotal.com, fineuploader.com/demos.html and even the 'Add Images' possibility on this support site I'm asking my question. Selecting files through Flash is working, though (e.g. uploadify.com), as well as dragging files on the button does work. I followed the advices given here, hence Firefox is currently opened in Safe Mode (which still does not allow to select files). How can I solve this behaviour without switching to a stable version (the current FF 38 stable is not available as 64 bit) or restoring it (through about:support; don't know if it would work either)?

Thank you for your reply, but I don't have site loading issues nor do I have problems with downloading , opening or saving files. It's more a Firefox problem I'm having which probably means I'm in the wrong category... The problem I'm having is that Firefox does not open the dialog box when clicking on a "Select File" button. The websites are delivered correctly to my browser (no transmission problems), it's that Firefox does not respond to clicking on the <input type="file" /> website interface element. And that's not limited to certain websites.

Yes, I tried that already. It didn't help.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then try to create a new profile.

Thanks, I thought about that and will do that eventually. Is there any way to figure out what's wrong before so that it won't happen again? Something I can do? E.g. collecting necessary information and submitting a bug report (for the programmers)?

Oh and did I choose the correct category (Fix problems with websites (Facebook, YouTube, webmail etc.))? Or should it be a more FF related category?

As long as you think you got the correct category, don't worry about it.

As to the cause of the problem; IF the problem is a corrupt file in the Firefox Programs Folder, a re-install should clean out the problem.
