How do only sync new messages? My Inbox is swamped!
Hi,
My laptop is running out of hard drive memory..thanks to my Inbox.
In searching for all big files, my computer found that 250 gigs are in my various email folders and accounts.
I deleted all the big emails...but the 250 gigs hardly changed at all.
Need solution fast. as I only have 4 gigs left before my computer crashes
How Do I organize and sync only new emails to download and leave the older ones to my online gmail account?
Thanks Richard

Start by
- disabling the windows search integration. Tools menu > options > Advanced > general.
This will about halve you storage requirements. But manual action needs to be taken to remove the files.
- Compact your folders. In Thunderbird File menu (alt+F) > compact folders. This actually shrinks the storage files following your deletions.
Now manual action to remove the windows search integration files. Close Thunderbird. It must not be running. On the start menu type cmd and press enter. type at the command prompt.
cd %appdata%\Thunderbird\profiles
Press enter
type del *.mozmsgs /s
(be very careful getting this one right. It deletes files. using two * will delete you entire profile so be sure it is right. Press Enter.
This will take some time. I my case about 10 minutes. You may well see it take more time.
It will finish be telling you something like a hundred thousand files deleted.
I compacted the folders..helped a little.
I also disabled both Windows and Global Search features.
I created folders based on Year and/or Hobbies. So I have like 2009 emails 2010...etc. Any idea how to back up some of my folders and emails? before I delete them?
I want to back up certain folders in Thunderbird to a portable hard drive and access them or re-load them at a later date..if I need them.. and then delete from computer.
Thanks
