Latest version firefox issue: "Firefox is already running, but not responding"
My Firefox got updated to latest version two days back. Since then, I am constantly facing the issue of "Firefox is already running but not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." I have searched all the possible solutions available on web, but it didn't work. I have tried following:
1.) Uninstalled Firefox and installed again, but the issue persisted.
2.) Uninstalled Firefox, deleted all it's files from computer in Program Files and in Appdata Firefox Profiles by opening my laptop in safe mode (as parent.lock and other profiles were not getting deleted in normal mode, even the processes were not getting terminated in normal mode--see snapshot), installed Firefox again, but issue still persisted.
3.) Tried closing it's process from task manager (didn't work in normal mode, had to it by opening my system in safe mode--see snapshot), but issue still persisted after using Firefox for sometime.
4.) Tried using other Firefox profiles than default--in this case the issue continued after using Firefox for few hours.
After trying all the things, I am choosing to seek help on this community. All my saved passwords are already gone, as I had to re-install Firefox deleting everything. But I am habituated to Firefox and don't want to switch to other browser. Please help me resolve this issue so that I can continue using Firefox normally like before. I have attached screenshots to understand the issue better.

Hi Saket,
Are you the administrator of the computer? Usually administrator accounts can only perform task that normal accounts cannot do. Try this using an administrator account.
You may also try these:
- On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [F].
- Type cmd
- Right click cmd then choose Run as Administrator.
- After the cmd opened. Type tasklist
- Look for "firefox.exe and the number beside it"
- After you've locate it type "taskkill /pid<space> ___________(the number beside the firefox.exe)
- Click Enter
Example: taskkill /pid 5100
See screenshot for details.
If this helps please let me know.
Thank you!
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.
Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You might also want to use SFC.
System File Checker(SFC) is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. This article describes how to run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to scan your system files and to repair missing or corrupted system files in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista. If a Windows Resource Protection (WRP) file is missing or is corrupted, Windows may not behave as expected. For example, some Windows functions may not work, or Windows may crash.
