Sync lost all my data

Since my system was getting sluggish I've decided to format everything and reinstall Win 8.1 back with FF32.

I was normally logged in and have stored approx. 100 passwords and bookmarks in that FF32.

After reinstall I've logged in to FF Sync and found an unpleasant surprise: Even though all check boxes are ticked - everything is emply. Nothing is being fetched.

What the hell? I dislike losing everything. I do have backup but not completely up to date.

sigh

Sync was never meant to be a backup service, it is meant to be a synchronization service between multiple devices running Firefox. While it sometimes works for backups, that's not it's purpose and thus isn't reliable.

HI prodigal10, This seems odd, that the data would be missing, however since you reformatted the drive when you added sync back the profile is no longer be there. The two profiles are merged on the initial sync of a device being added.

If you need instructions on how to use the back up, if after a while the profile does not show old content, Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles (after adding the profile back, add the account and sign in at accounts.firefox.com)

The Time when you do the backup is only works ,However you can take Backup from that profile too. For that,Read this : http://mzl.la/LOAFED If you not aware with Backup in firefox plz go through this : http://mzl.la/LHJo6V

Type about:sync-log in the Location Bar and hit Enter.

Open the log file and view it to see if you can figure out what's happening. Was the initial Sync completed or are there any ERROR's seen?

If you need assistance, you can copy and paste the contents of that report to Pastebin - http://pastebin.com/ - and provide the hyperlink so that we can view that report.

Alright, thanks for replies guys. Appreciate it.

about:sync-log gives me view of an empty folder, nothing there ?

So apparently even though I am logged in currently - there is nothing fetched? Maybe data isn't lost then.

EDIT: regarding profile backup... What's the point of having cloud sync if we are talking about having to manually backup profile folder?

Now that's a helpful answer. Unfortunately, it shows what I've learned "the hard way" - it's not reliable.

Back in times when I was using "old sync" - that thing worked flawless. Dozens of times after "format c:" it restored everything I had.

Like I said, Sync could work perfectly for a backup system, but until it has that feature built in, it's a hit or miss game on if it will work or not. You should always make actual backups of data before re0installing your OS.

That being said, did you back up your Windows data anywhere? (It may be in a windows.old folder on your C drive) you may be able to find your Firefox profile there.

Nah, I do classic format to keep SSD at full pace. Thanks for help anyway.
