Signing in to my AtomicBobs website returned a "Server not found" error for my desktop.

Followed some of the FAQ suggestions and reset Firefox but still had the problem.

Checked McAfee, and cannot find a reason for blockage there.

Ran Firefox in Safe Mode and the was able to log in to the website. However, after restarting Firefox in regular mode, my sign in is still valid, but when I try to post a message, I get the "Server not found" error again.

Thought this was my desktop, so I tried my laptop with the same problem.

Up until 2-3 weeks ago, I have never had a problem with this website either on my desktop or laptop.

Also, the website works in IE, but Firefox is my preferred browser.

What's changed?

You can also try to toggle this pref to false on the about:config page.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

  • check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Thank you both for the response, but these steps do not solve the problem and the about:config setting was already "false".

What I don't understand is why the problem occurred almost simultaneously with my desktop (W8.1) and my laptop (W7).

Server not found usually means that the site is blocked on the OS side or possibly via the configured DNS server(s).

I asked this question several months ago without a resolution although I did get some thoughtful replies for which I am grateful.

Anyway, the problem continues with some additional curiosities when running Firefox.

On Firefox 33.1, signing in to the AtomicBobs website returned a "Server not found" error for my desktop running W8.1.

I get a similar result on Firefox for my laptop running W7.

If I “Delete the stored cookie” link on the website, I can sign in. However, if I try to post on this website, I again get a “Server not found" message.

This does not happen with IE on my desktop or when I use my MS Surface RT Tablet (also running IE), so I’m assuming this has to do with Firefox.

I don’t know if it is connected, but EZPass keeps sending me an email that my AOL email address is undeliverable (I use Firefox to read my AOL emails and have no other problems with delivery and the email listed is correct).

Also, when I try to book a tee time on my local golf course, when I try to confirm or cancel the suggested tee time, I get knocked off the website – although both the confirm and cancel buttons books the tee time!. This does not happen in IE.

I have tried to compare option settings between Firefox and IE, but cannot find a discrepancy.

I would appreciate any additional suggestions to resolve these problems since I have been a long time Firefox user and this is my preferred browser.

Also – how about expediting Firefox for MS RT!

Well, I forgot about the site thru the history link and it still doesn't work.

Two more points of info.

1. My Belkin router crashed and I replaced it. Set up without MAC address filtering -- problem still appears.

2. Reinstalled my AOL McAfee security suite -- still have the problem.

Got on to the main page. Question, have you tried to access this way?

more options

Yes.

This is where I usually get to sign in, usually after I check the "delete stored cookie".

But when I do get in, if I try to preview or post a message, I get the error msg "Server not found. Firefox can't find the server at compose.php"

When do you delete the cookies? And why are you deleting them?

When you open the AB website and are not signed in, there is a long board info listing that can be hidden only when signed in.

If you select the "hide board info" at the end of the listing, it leads to a "Log in required" page. Just above the Login button, there is a link "Delete stored cookie". If I don't delete the cookie, when I enter my User Name & PW, then I get an error msg, "Server not found . Firefox can't find the server at index.php. If I delete the cookie, then I can sign in and hide the board info.

When in, if I try to post/reply or preview a posting, then I get the "Server not found. Firefox can't find the server at compose.php" error message.
