I have tried all the 'fixes' that I found in the forum and nothing works. I must change browsers when I have to do anything that involves copy/paste. How can I permanently allow copy/paste on any web site/ any form/ anything I choose to copy/paste anywhere any time? I thank you for your safety concerns, but I am over 21 and own this computer.

This is the message I hate to see...as this means I have to shut firefox down, open IE, repeat all the steps and re-copy message, what a waste of time.

That's a weird error message seeing as it separates Mozilla and Firefox as if they're separate products.

Where do you get this message because this is not a Firefox error message IMO.

This message crops up on many sites....the AMD forum for one. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox and that did not change anything. Google has many posts exactly like mine...with some having some convoluted fix that a user shouldn't have to go through.

I just noticed you're using Waterfox. Is there a reason you're using Waterfox and not the official Firefox? Waterfox isn't supported here FYI. If you have issues with Waterfox, you should go to the Waterfox forum

Have you tried to use actual Firefox to see if it works or have you just been using Waterfox this whole time?

I was trying Waterfox to see if the issue was resolved using it. Are you saying that message and the inability to copy/paste in some instances (right click) are not something that is inherent with Firefox (I am using Firefox 31 )? When I get that message, it says 'learn more' then links to an explanation of why (safety) and steps to allow it "on that particular site" using about:config. I have tried using "Allowclipboard Helper" add on with no success. The fix for individual sites that I found using Google is as follows: For Firefox on Windows:

1. Quit Firefox. If you have Quick Launch running (in Windows, an icon in the toolbar), quit that too.

2. Find your Firefox profile directory. On Windows, this is often located in C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<one folder>. (For more info on locating your profile folder, use the search term 'editing configuration files' in the Firefox Knowledge Base at: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/ ), in Windows 7 this is accessed by typing %appdata% in the location bar.

3. Open the user.js file from that directory in a text editor. If there's no user.js file, create one.

4. Add these lines to user.js:

user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "allowclipboard"); user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www.omniupdate.com http://omniupdate.com https://www.omniupdate.com https://omniupdate.com"); user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.cutcopy", "allAccess"); user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.paste", "allAccess");

Note: the 'capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites' user_pref can have additional sites in the value list. Each site must be space-separated, and can be anything from a specific URL to an entire domain.

This is a conveluted answer to a serious problem with Firefox. I can't even find "windows login" where you say it is, I don't have a "user.js" file and don't understand the rest of the answer. I'm running Windows XP pro and when I need to cut and paste I have to load Internet Explorer. Why can't you just include cut and paste within firefox? Please tell me "In words I can understand" how to activate cut and paste in Firefox.

The last answer provided in the last posting on 07-24-2014 by the Question Owner is old information. Those capability policy prefs were deprecated in Firefox 30 or thereabout.

Do the keyboard commands for copy and paste work for you? {Ctrl + C} for Copy and {Ctrl + V} for paste.

Hi Century22

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

It did work in safe mode......

Now for the long process of finding which extension is causing it.

Note: If you've reached this page from a message box in Firefox or another Mozilla product, try using keyboard shortcuts for the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands:

   Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert (command+C on Mac)
   Paste: Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert (command+V on Mac)
   Cut: Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete (command+X on Mac)

The information on the rest of this page is for Web developers and advanced users. Please do not try to modify this page.

To protect users' private information, unprivileged scripts cannot invoke the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands in Midas, which is Mozilla's rich text editor component. This means that the corresponding buttons on the Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work. To enable these functions, you must modify your browser preferences.

Warning: Changing these preferences can leave your browser insecure, especially if you grant permission to untrusted sites. Only change these settings as needed to try the demo above and to test your own add-on or Firefox-internal code, and be sure to restore the default settings when you're done! Changing the preferences in Firefox

   Quit Firefox. If you have Quick Launch running (on Windows, this is an icon in the toolbar), quit that too.
   Find your Firefox profile directory.
   Open the user.js file from that directory in a text editor. If there's no user.js file, create one.
   Add these lines to user.js:
   user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "allowclipboard");
   user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "https://www-archive.mozilla.org");
   user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.cutcopy", "allAccess");
   user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.paste", "allAccess");
   Change the URL https://www.mozilla.org to the site for which you want to enable this function.
   Save the file and restart Firefox. The Clipboard buttons in the demo, or similar buttons on the sites you listed, should now function.

Note: The preference is site as well as protocol specific. For example:

user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www-archive.mozilla.org")

is not the same as:

user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "https://www-archive.mozilla.org")

This is because the first uses HTTP while the second uses HTTPS. If you want to allow multiple URLs to access the Paste operation, separate the URLs with a space. For example:

user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "https://www-archive.mozilla.org https://developer.mozilla.org")

Again, keep in mind the security risks involved here and be sure to remove permission to access the clipboard once you no longer need it enabled.
