Firefox will not play videos in or out of U-Tube. . All videos play in I.E. ver 11.0.10 without an issue
In Firefox I get a large black square that reduces to a black bar and then when I place the cursor in the area where the video should be I see a flashing rotating circle.

Some Firefox 30 users have been reporting for the past week that some Youtube vidoes do not play but your issue sounds a bit different because you are not getting the "Try again later" message.
Have you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?
I noticed you have Flash set to "Ask to Activate" AKA click-to-play. If Firefox is failing to display the approval link in the video area, could you check the "Lego"-like icon in the address bar to make sure Flash is approved to run on the site?
I had tried safe mode, but it did not help. I tried again just to make sure I didn't have a senior moment, but it still didn't play the video.
I think this one uses Firefox's native HTML5 player instead of Flash: http://vimeo.com/97455734 Does that work?
Flash is set to "Allow" when I interrogate the Icon on the left of the "Address Bar" . I also went in and changed the permissions from "ask" to "Always Allow". That didn't help. I disabled my ZoneAlarm, but that didn't fix it either. I disabled "Add Block", that didn't help
I attached the image of an attempt to play an MSN Video
I sure hope there is an answer, as using I.R. isn't an option I cherish.
Thanks
The Vimeo video DOES work and plays both video and audio.

On the MSN site, could you open the Web Console (Ctrl+Shift+k) in the lower part of the tab and click Network, then try a video in the upper part of the tab? Click the Size column a couple times to bring the largest items to the top and watch for the player.swf file to load and then see whether any media files load. Sample screen shot attached.
Anything?
Sorry for the delay. I went to bed for an early doctors apt. Player.swf showed in the Console, but its size was ZERO. There weren't any movie files loaded.
Can you think of any reason that s-msn.com might be blocked?
If you try to visit the address directly will it load?
http://img.widgets.video.s-msn.com/player.swf
After about 15 seconds, I just get a control bar for a blank player because the URL doesn't feed it a specific video to play. Do you even get that?
I only get a BLACK screen. I tried several videos.
Your thought about something being blocked had me try starting Windows in "Safe" mode and the video played.
Now the trick is to find what is loading that is causing this??? Where to start?
Do you have any content filters running, such as security suites or software like K9 Web Protection?
I have ZoneAlarm Extreme ver 13, but I have exited it and still can't run videos.
Actually, you said at the start that IE works, so what kind of filter or blocker would affect Firefox but not IE??
If you check your connection setting, is there anything unusual:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
The default is "Use system proxy settings" which should piggyback on IE's LAN settings, but you also could try "No proxy".
It was set to "Use system proxy settings". I changed it to "No Proxy", closed and opened FireFox. Still no videos. Changes setting back to "Use system proxy settings".
I didn't see anything unusual. I did have "Block Pop-up Windows" checked. I unchecked closed and opened FireFox. Still no videos. Changes setting back to checked.
Under Options>Applications all of the video actions are set to "Use Quicktime Plugin 7.7.5 (In FireFox). Is that odd?
I have tried removing and reloading FireFox a few versions ago.
BTW - Thank you for your help!! I don't like I.E. and would much prefer to get back to FireFox.
Thanks for checking the proxy.
Usually the settings in Options > Applications do not affect embedded videos. But why not try disabling QuickTime in case it somehow is interfering with Flash. Open the Add-ons page using either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for QuickTime and change it to "Never Activate". You may have to reload a tab or launch a new window (Ctrl+n) before that takes effect.
Firefox can play many Youtube videos natively without Flash if you select the HTML5 option. But some will always require Flash, so this is not a complete workaround... and of course only affects Youtube videos.
Thanks again, but disabling QuickTime did NOT allow me to play MSN videos.
Success!! I wanted to download the latest 64 bit Adobe Flash player for I.E. and was told there was an error in the installation and that I, the Admin, didn't have proper permissions. I deleted all occurrences of anything that included Adobe Flash ... then reinstalled the 64 bit version from Adobe. It loaded and installed in I.E.
I tried FireFox and all is now WELL. Lots of videos playing.
The last time I tried downloading Adobe Flash was from FireFox and it prompted me to download the 32 bit version??? Maybe this was the issue???
Thank you so much for your help and guidance jscher2000.
UPDATE - Downloading Flash for FireFox caused ALL video playing to once again fail in FireFox.

Firefox has asked me to install Flash. jscher2000 do you think this is a good idea as FireFox is a 32 bit application.?
Thanks Ken
If you visit Adobe's download page using Firefox, it will suggest the correct download.
Hi jscher2000,
Well it's back. I downloaded the 32 bit version for FireFox and after a reboot all of the VIDEOS FAIL to play again. I will try to remove and reload the 64 bit version later, but I am preparing for an eye operation and may be unable to use the computer for a few days.
