My address bar would take me to Google before, but now it redirects to yahoo, I have no addons except adblock and I have run various programs to try and clean my PC, including malware bytes, adwcleaner, junkware removal tool, even the searchreset extension for firefox and nothing has worked. I have also tried to go into the about:config to change my preferences and that did not work either. I reset firefox and still nothing, I am not sure what else I can do please help me.

There are other things that need your attention.

Your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 14.0 d0
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.9 d900
  3. Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.

  • (32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
  • (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Your default search engine was probably changed by something on your computer. I'll show you how to change it back.

1. Click the icon of your search engine and arrow on the search bar of Firefox (the Yahoo! icon and an arrow in your case). 2. Click Google from the menu.

Your searches should go to Google now.

Things you might want to do.

Look through your add/remove programs in Control Panel for suspicious things like "Yahoo toolbar" or toolbar programs. Uninstall them. They might be the cause of the search engine change, and can change it back, even if you change the search engine back to Google.

Download Extension Defender here. If an addon caused the change, chances are that it will do it again, causing this same problem. Extension Defender may be able to detect it. Install Extension Defender and scan Firefox with it, removing any suspect addons.

Thanks for the suggestion You, but it is not my search bar but rather my address bar that is going to yahoo and not google.

The search engine that is selected in the search bar is used for the URL bar, the default homepage, and the search bar. It's been like that since Firefox 24 at least.

more options

Do you mean your homepage? That's easy to change. Press ALT on your keyboard, go to Tools>Options, go to the General (has the light switch) Section, and choose "Show my homepage" after When Firefox Starts under Startup and set the Home page as google.com.

If that's the case and it is due to malware, you can look into (Link removed by mod). It sets and keeps specific new tab and home pages on your internet browser, so things like toolbars can't change them.

Don't use suspicious third-party apps like browserprotect. Please try the following:

Tyler Downer, thank you for the response, I have tried both of those and all of my searches are still going to yahoo looksafe search for some reason, my secondary search bar is set to google as it always is, I have tried using both of those methods and neither of them have worked.

You, i have run various programs to rid my system of any malicious software and I always get 0 threats found.

This is only if you run a search through your URL bar correct? I wonder if your ISP is setting up something to catch and redirect these searches through Yahoo!. They tend do to sneaky things like that.

Is there any messaging from your ISP on the page that appears?

more options

Tyler Downer, Yes through the URL bar only, Im not sure how to check ISP settings or anything what type of message should i be looking for

Sorry for the delays between my posts, I am at work so I can only answer when things slow down.

BrowserProtect is not a third party app. It is also on the Mozilla addons website. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/?src=ss

cor-el, thank you for the response, I have run malwarebytes, adwcleaner and they did not find anything.

Regarding the flash player plugins, do I only need only one of them? and can they cause problems like this?

It seems that your computer has been infected with browser redirect virus which just looks like Yahoo. Don't confuse this looksafe? with yahoo! It has nothing to do with yahoo.

Reads like a Firefox autosend, addressing everything but the Yahoo problem.
