My firefox crashes almost daily. It seems to crash most often when I start using it again when it has been idle for a few hours. But it also crashes while I've been using it for an extended period of time and also when I'm not using it at all (I return home to find an unwelcome Mozilla crash reporter - I am so sick of seeing that thing!). I've got my add-ons down to the essentials, hoping that uninstalling some add-ons that I didn't need would solve the problem. It hasn't. Here are some specifics about my situation: -I am running Mozilla 29.0.1 on Windows 7 -I keep a lot of tabs open at a time, like 2 separate pages, one with 20 tabs and one with 20-30. I recognize that this amount is a lot and might be the cause of my problem, but I can't get past the fact that my mozilla rarely crashed before I updated to this version. My add-ons: -Adblock Plus 2.6 -Diigo toolbar 5.1.0.39 -Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus 1.3 -Evernote Web Clipper 5.9.1 -Google Shortcuts 2.1.7.1 -Last Pass 3.1.1 -Menu Editor 1.2.7 -Restartless Restart 9 -Tab Counter 1.9.9 -Tab Mix Plus 0.4.1.3.1 After some googling, I thought that it might be a memory usage issue and it seems that Adblock, Google Shortcuts, and Menu Editor take up a lot of memory usage. I imagine others take up memory usage too. But these add-ons are indispensable to my browsing experience. I have reached the end of my troubleshooting capabilities. I know enough about computers to be able to fix minor problems but nothing I have done seems to make a difference. I have also saved some crash reports, not that I know what any of it means. I would like this problem to be solved without changing any of my browsing habits or add-ons. I think the problem is the new version of FIrefox because I never had this problem before it automatically updated itself. I can get past the minor annoyances that have come with this new version (not being able to put my google shortcuts on the bottom toolbar, for example) but every time I see a Mozilla crash reporter, I just want to throw something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would you mind posting some of your recent crash IDs? Forum volunteers can use those to check with crash data online to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox Crashes" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Does the Firefox memory usage increase excessively if Firefox is left idle or is being used for a longer period if you check this in the Windows Task Manager?

You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing this problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Could you post the crash IDs (start with bp-) or links to the pages on the crash-stats server? The online reports are correlated with known bugs and other information that helps in interpreting the crash.

That looks like an issue with graphics. Very known crash here. This is an ongoing issue with graphics acceleration and it is being addressed in

In the meantime you can try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window, click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

It also looks like Firefox ran out of memory (RAM usage 80-90%) so this could be out-of-memory crashes.

I've visited many of the suggested pages before I submitted my question and wasn't able to fix the problem. So here is what I have tried. -"Hardware acceleration when available" is unchecked. -I tried installing an optional Windows update meant to update my driver, as suggested on one of the pages. The update failed, saying "Windows Update error 80070103." I looked up what that could mean and it said I was trying to install a driver that is already installed or a driver that is less compatible than my current driver. I tried to manually install new drivers and I got basically the same message whenever I tried to install it. -I ran firefox in safe mode and it didn't seem to crash but I only left it in safe mode for a day. Mozilla seems to crash quite randomly so I don't know if I just didn't leave it in safe mode long enough to crash. If it is the add-ons, then the instructions on those sites say "test out the problem" but I don't know how I would be able to do that because it crashes so randomly. -In addition, all my extensions seem to be up to date. -And RAM could very well be the problem but at this point I am giving up and have resolved myself to endure frequent Mozilla crashes. Like I said initially, I have reached the limit of my troubleshooting capabilities. Thank you for your help but trying to fix this is turning out to be more frustrating than the damn Mozilla crash reporter.

Go to your add-ons manager, and Disable some of them. Restart. Use normally. If the problem comes back, Disable some more and restart. When the problem seems gone, you have a clue to the problem.
