Reverting to Firefox 28 was the best thing to happen to me this week
I just wanted to reply to a post by Grubbyashes in this thread (https://support.mozilla.org/ja/questions/997508#question-reply) but apparently you have to ask a NEW question in order to REGISTER so I'm starting a completely worthless thread for this purpose. Firefox 29 has been an absolute nightmare and reverting to Firefox 28 has solved all my problems, but just to vent my anger over spending an hour and a half trying to make Firefox 29 workable I will list all the problems I have encountered using Firefox 29.
1) All the buttons are messed up -Back button isn't at the left-most edge -History button is worthless and now requires 2 clicks to reach the History sidebar -Favorites button now takes up the space of 2 buttons instead of 1 -There's a useless new feature that has a bunch of buttons in a menu that I will never use as anything that I do, I will have it pinned onto the Navigation Toolbar
2) The implementation is buggy and Firefox 29 crashes on me at least once a day Firefox has been very stable and has never crashed more than once a week before Firefox 29 came around
3) There's no Title bar at the top of the screen At first I thought this wasn't such a bad improvement as there's no need to have "(page name) - Mozilla Firefox" taking up a few pixels...until I needed to move the browser window Now that there was no Title bar, there was no place to "click and drag", making it practically impossible to move the screen without first having to find the tiny bit of area in between the Menu buttons and the buttons on the Navigation Toolbar Same goes for maximizing a window/putting it back
Firefox 29 has been the worst thing that has ever happened to Firefox. Don't make the same mistake Microsoft made with Windows 8 and throw all the old users under the bus.

How do you revert to version 28?
Download and install Firefox 28 from here ( http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/28.0/win32/en-US/ ) Make sure to disable automatic updates or else Firefox will update itself again to 29 upon restart like a zombie that won't die. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/753852
IMPORTANT (Comment from a forum moderator ~J99 )
It is NOT recommended to downgrade Firefox.
That increases the risks to your Personal Data and your system.
Feel free to install whatever outdated software you wish, but before considering downgrading Firefox to an unsupported and insecure version
- Please read Install an older version of Firefox (That contains down load links)
- and glance at https://www.mozilla.org/security/know.../firefox.html
- Note once security fixes are implemented and publicised you are more open to exploits, when using the outdated software, and that problem gets worse the longer insecure software is used and the older it gets.
Users aware of the risks may consider methods to mitigate those risks such as using Virtual Machines and having well rehearsed bare metal restore procedures.

Oh and also if the situation continues I strongly suggest you switch to a different browser as it's unlikely Mozilla will provide security patches to Firefox 28. Google Chrome: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ Opera: http://www.opera.com/ Safari: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#safari
Have you tried Classic Theme Restorer, or portable Firefox? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Thanks but that did nothing to solve the problem.
Ugh simple word of caution: Do NOT press the "Check for Updates" button under Help -> About Firefox because it won't give you an option not to upgrade and you will instantly be thrown into the depth of Australis HELL.
Now that FF 30 is out and none of the problems mentioned with the original post was resolved, I suggest ditching Firefox altogether and moving to another browser (though neither Internet Explorer 11 nor Google Chrome have the basic features pre-Australis Firefox had like a New Window button or the ability to change the order of the buttons).
The only other solutions seem to be installing an anti-virus software and pray to God that your computer don't get destroyed, program your own browser, or start a petition to get Mozilla to abandon the hellhole that is Australis.
You also have the option of switching to SeaMonkey. It is more like the older Firefox than Chrome, Opera, or Safari.
There are many extensions that will work with SeaMonkey. Some are labelled incompatible with the current version, but the max version for the target application can be increased in the install.rdf file within the .xpi installer archive. There is also a converter that can change some Firefox extensions to install in SM.
