how can i stop thunderbird from interacting with windows defender anti virus scan? when ever i download or delete emails i get a few seconds of "not responding " and the whole computer is non responsive. i used to be able to turn off real time scan in security and it would work for a day and then windows would enable it again. now since the last upgrade windows isnt allowing me that option any more. solutions?

Here in Jan 2024 suddenly TB will no longer connect to any hotmail or outlook..it says I have to enter a new password but I have not changed my password and can get onto them if I go directly to that site. Any suggestions?

Since the latest upgrade to 115.10.1 (64-bit) I have an issue about running Thunderbird.

From a clean Windows 11 start up it is OK but then if I then Exit and then try to run the bird again it does not start.

Digging around I discovered using Task Manager, a number of Thunderbird processes run after I had Exited. See attached.

Any thoughts?

I have tried to restore a backup made with Mozbackup. This was a bad idea. I now have 2 profiles xxxdefault-beta and yyy.default. So I asked Tbird to install from yyy.default where i've got my recent emails and it tried to import without success. I humbly ask for some options. Can I merge 2 profiles ie copy them into one profie folder? Can I hide/rename the profiles then delete Tbird and install anew? I promise on my grandmothers skateboard I will never use Mozbackup again, + . As an aside in appdata,local,tbird,profiles,yyy.default,cache2 there's a whole bunch of alphacoded files. what do these do?

About 2 weeks ago, Thunderbird stopped sending emails. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with tech support but was unable to correct the issue. Changed all of the settings several times, SMTP server, port, security and authentication without success. Tech support suggested using their server but that's a pain. I am using Thunderbird 115.10.1 on Windows 11. T keeps deleting my saved passwords. T takes a very long time to load. There are no saved passwords and I enter them all with the options to save. I check the passwords in Settings and they are all there correctly. When I next run Thunderbird it may or may not have them still saved. I check the Settings and they have gone; so I enter them again and they are saved OK. But then they are deleted some time later. I cannot see any pattern in the failure. I wonder if there is a problem with the outgoing server setttings. All the passwords are lost whether imap, pop (Ionos), hotmail or yahoo. Is there a way to clear out my profile or is this a problem with this T release. it did not happen until about 1-2 months ago. My profile is on a local NAS. Generally T seems to be quite unstable ; I get Not Responding too often.. Thanks

Other than just the setup, how do I get Thunderbird to use "POP" rather than "IMAP" protocol for email? Until March of this year, I had Thunderbird setup as a "POP" client for email downloads from Frontier. And, then Frontier moved all of their email services to Yahoo and in the process, my Thunderbird wound up using "imap.mail.yahoo.com" instead of "pop3.frontier.com". I don't want IMAP - I want POP. So, I tried changing that in Thunderbird setup to "pop.mail.yahoo.com", but it does not respond.

Posted this before, got no answers, not even a "no, there's no cure for that." Hoping for better this time.... My inbox suffers from disappearing email sometimes, and using the properties>repair cure works okay as far as I can tell (if someone emails me and doesn't ask about it later, how would I know?). But it has happened frequently enough, half a dozen times a month or more, that I do the repair by default pretty much every day just to be safe. That's easy but still a pain. Does nobody in MozillaWorld know a more permanent solution to free me from my constant missed mail paranoia? As I said, a reasonably authoritative "No, there isn't" is perfectly fine and much better than radio silence. Regards!

I'm about the 100th person to have this problem, so I have spent the better part of two days looking at all the threads and possible fixes. Like all the others, with no warning, my TBird stopped being able to send messages through Spectrum. It did NOT start immediately after I updated TBird to 115.9.0 (in March) but just three days ago. I have three roadrunner addresses in TBird, and one other one associated with a website I have. All have the same problem. My phone and my iPad send messages just fine.

I tried all the fixes that worked for some. They didn't work for me; I continued to get various, inconsistent Send Message Errors. I have come back to the recommended Spectrum setup for the outgoing SMTP server: mail.twc.com, Security is STARTTLS, Port 587, Authentication is Normal Password, my username is my email address. Of course the problem is not fixed.

What DID work was putting TBird in Troubleshooting mode, using the Spectrum setup above. While that is adequate, I would much rather find out what is wrong. I have Matt's 10/7/23 11:56 AM answer to someone, asking for the Troubleshooting Information. I will be glad to supply that but I need an answer to this message in order to do that. Thanks! Demaris

Hello. I have a new MacBook M2. Thunderbird ver. 115.10.01 (64-x). Very high consumption of memory and energy resources of the laptop. The email client simply eats up the battery! I didn't install any add-ons. Everything is out of the box. Reinstallation didn't help. What is the problem and what should I do?

Thunderbird keeps asking for my password and password manager doesn't remember it. Each time I try to look at or respond to messages, it asks for my password --- I check the password manager box to remember it but it doesn't.

Should I delete thunderbird and then install a 2020 version where this was not a problem or is there a way to solve the problem with the latest current version

Yesterday I downloaded Thunderbird to Windows 10 (64-bit), added my Office 365 (for work or school) account, rocketmail account and iCloud account. I created unified folders for the three accounts. I have downloaded the TBSync add-on with the required CavDev (?) one to connect my iCloud calendar.

After successful use the first few times, now Thunderbird becomes unresponsive within 5 seconds of opening, every time, rendering the program unusable.

Troubleshooting mode does not fix the problem, so I assume it's not the add-ons, nor does starting my PC in Safe Mode (F4 at startup ie no networking), so I assume it's not antivirus.

I uninstalled Thunderbird and re-installed from the website today. All my accounts were there (so I wonder if the uninstall didn't work properly, although I assume that it's just the files left on my computer that the new Thunderbird installation is accessing).

All these attempted fixes leave the problem unchanged: the window freezing within seconds of opening.

Because the program becomes listed as 'not responding' and greys out on further clicks, I have to hard-close the program using Windows, selecting 'Close the progam'. Clicking 'Wait for the program to respond' leaves the screen greyed out, and nothing changes for at least 20 minutes (the maximum I've tried waiting it out). This also means that it does not yield a formal crash report, because Thunderbird does not recognise it has crashed.

On one occasion it did create a crash report, which I submitted. I am not sure what behaviour allowed this to happen, and I have been unable to reproduce it. That particular crash ID was as follows:

Any help much appreciated! I'd love to stick with Thunderbird if possible.

Thunderbird runs slow...ie when I type an email I can easily type faster than thunderbird will accept characters....(this does not happen in other applications)...this happened about a month ago, and then stopped ( I have no idea why)...but the problem is back. I am running Ver 115.10.0 build 2024012173147. Rebooting windows 11 makes no difference.... I just tried to enter Troubleshoot mode and thunderbird stopped responding....Top line says Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding). Thunderbird is connected to my gmail account. ...and I run IMAP....with 'store all messages on the computer', but thunderbird wants to load every email from the server'

Ancien ordinateur et nouvel ordinateur (2 semaines) .... Même symptômes ? J'ai alerté mon opérateur pour une analyse de ma box... Ils n'ont pas encore trouvé quoi que se soit ?
