I am unable to send any emails with attachments or embedded images via my gmail account. Error message:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again.

I am able to send simple text emails without any issues

I tried the suggestions listed here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1344851. Nothing helped. I can send simple text emails so I know my smtp settings are correct. I also have no issues downloading emails from the account.

Hello, I have recently changed my Host and in the process of trying to reconfigure my server details for my new mail account I accidentally removed my account, thereby losing all mails and folders including my customer database, which leaves me feeling bereft.

Looking at similar questions it seems that it is possible to restore the lost mails and folders but unfortunately I am not that savy with this stuff and find it all rather difficult and scary.

Are there any step by step instructions on how I can restore my account or simply get access to my lost mails and folders ?

Here's my current setup: I have 2 laptops, and each is set up as a dual-boot with both Windows 10 Pro, and AntiX Linux. That makes a total of 4 operating systems, and I have Thunderbird installed on all 4.

I'm not sure how useful this is, for framing an answer to my question re. syncing, but here's extra info: I keep all my personal data on encrypted external hard drives, which I access using VeraCrypt. External is so I never lose my data if a given machine dies. Encrypted is so, even if the physical external hard drive is stolen, they can't steal the personal data. (I maintain a cloned backup external drive.) Today, I chose a location on the primary external hard drive, and created a folder named "Thunderbird email". I'm using the AntiX v19.4 OS right now, so I've set that new folder as the Local Folders location within this installation of Thunderbird.

I got this far, and then realized I need some guidance from more experienced users. So, I located this support page, and signed up for asking my questions about Thunderbird. Thanks in advance, for any help you can give me.

Hi, I just got a new HP Windows 11 desktop. I used Thunderbird on my old Dell Windows 10 PC fine. I have Spectrum for email and it's time warner cable twc.com they are also Charter. My new PC came with a trial of McAfee. I am having a problem I saw someone else post where I can receive email but not send I get error about timed out and just now got this Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) .gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again. I asked Spectrum if it had to do with Mcafee they said no to contact you all. They said my settings are right which I copied off my old PC. I thought I used to always be pop3 but they said it's imap. I receive just fine just can't send. It worked on my old PC fine. Thanks! I want to be able to use the archive and delete functions in Thunderbird for a Gmail account that will have the following results:

I want to be able to archive email in TB with the following results: (a) the email is moved to an archive folder in TB (b) the email is de-labelled in Gmail, i.e. it ends up in All Mail only.

I want a Delete in TB to delete the email on TB and send to the Bin on Gmail.

I don't want to have to sync the "All Mail" label from Gmail to TB.

Currently, I have a set up as follows: I have archive switched off on TB. I have Delete set to mark as deleted and I have auto-expunge on in Gmail. This way "deleting" an email from the inbox in TB actually archives it in Gmail. I then have a separate account in TB set to download all emails from gmail by POP3 which serves as the TB archive. To delete emails: I have created a folder in TB called "to delete" and I move any emails I want to delete to that. Then from time to time I log into Gmail and bin everything in that folder.

My workaround achieves everything except that the local archive still contains everything that I have actually deleted.

I have tried to change this. I turned on Archive in TB and set it to keep an archive of the email in Local Folders. I left Delete as is and in Gmail I turned off auto-expunge and set it to Bin emails on expunge. The plan will then be to discontinue the POP3 download. BUT I have found that if I archive or delete an email in TB the email is struck through to show it is marked as deleted, but even if I move out of the inbox and back in or force a send/receive or I close TB completely and log back in the emails are still sitting there. And in neither case does the email leave the Inbox in Gmail. I do wonder if the fact that I have Gmail on my phone is causing a problem because the emails are showing there too and therefore the "expunged from the last visible IMAP folder" means that Gmail is not yet acting on the deletion.

Any advice welcome.

Hi all, I am currently running Thunderbird 102.0. Everytime I start it a message pops out after a while saying the latest version cannot be installed automatically and should be downloaded directly from TB website. When I check for updates in TB it says its updated, even though I know its not since theres now 102.1 out. On the website it says that the latest version is not available as automatic update for versions 91 or older but since I am running 102.0 it should be installed automatically right? The same problem is happening for like 3 months now. Its like TB stopped the automatic updates. It frustrates me having to manually download and install every new version or the constantly popping up message asking me to do it. Any idea how to repair it?

Also strange thing I noticed when I checked the history of updates it says the latest update installed is 91.9.0 from 5th May 2022.

I was provided an email address by an organization in which I am an officer. The host ISP for it is GoDaddy. When I installed Thunderbird (newest download), I allowed it to search for recognized settings. It found them, and I accepted them -- the host server was "office365.com." After going through the rest of the steps, I got to my Inbox. I had someone send me a test message, and it arrived fine. However, when I tried to reply, I got the message "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username [xxxx@yyy.org] failed." When I canceled out of that dialog box, a new one popped up which said "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server . . ." I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird, wiping out all profiles in between, and then using manual configuration to set things up as per guidance on a help page at GoDaddy for configuring Thunderbird. It uses "secureserver.net" rather than "office365.com" in the incoming and outgoing settings boxes. However, when I attempt to test the configuration, I get "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name, or password." Help!

Hi I have read many articles about Gmail accounts under Thunderbird and kind of understand how they use a single file, with labels, instead of the standard folders used by many email services. I do not want to see the Gmail section on my TB display. I had read that just 'unsubscribe' the section showing 'Gmail' and all its contents. I put my pointer on the account and look for 'unsubscribe' but it shows only 'subscribe' as a choice.

Why is Gmail section showing up? Why do I not see 'unsubscribe'? I am using TB 91.9.0 (64-bit). I have several accounts for which this is true. I use a Linux distribution (Fedora 34) which is EOL but upgrading should not be an issue for this generic issue. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated ... Robert

I have version 102.1.1 installed on iMAC Monterey 12.5. As the message received is larger than as set, I should click the link "Download the rest of the message". But nothing happens. In the past (older TB version) that always worked well. I checked all settings but could not find anything related. Fortunately the full message could be retrieved directly from the webmail server. Restarting TB did not help.

I have four individual accounts which were all listed in a combined inbox as well as individual account inboxes. After the update to 102.1.2, the unified inbox only contains emails from one of the accounts. The other accounts are still listed individually. Is there any way to fix the unified inbox so it includes all the accounts again?
