So I need to update my Firefox Browser to 128 BUT somehow "Updates disabled by your system administrator." and as I am the only user I have never set up an administrator.

So I have had a look and I don't understand most of what I am reading.

So about:policies.... DisableAppUpdate true So how do I change that? I have looked at Reg Editor but have no idea what I am looking at.

It took me a long time to update to Firefox 121 because I did not like some of the changes Mozilla did to it like spacing between Bookmarks in the dropdown so to update again is a big thing for me. Attached as much as I think is relevant. Any help will be much appreciated.

A thunderbird update (128.6.0esr->128.6.1esr) fails very similarly.

I used snap to update manually in order to see error messages:

I use Firefox on a ASUS Vivobook running Windows 11. On April 1, it tried to update to version 137.0, but failed and led me into a update loop of sorts. I had to re-install Firefox just to force an update on it, and that worked for a bit. Just today, it decided to update... and led me into ANOTHER update loop, and it's saying that the "install failed" when I check the update history.

Is anybody else experiencing this bug, and is there a way to fix it?

How should I fix the frozen browser. Mozilla support articles frequently state that Firefox does not use popups for browser updates. However, I periodically receive popups from the toolbar stating that Firefox couldn't update automatically. The attached picture is an example from the web but looks just like the popups I receive. The issue typically either resolves itself or I download from the Firefox website and reinstall. In a rush/moment of weakness, I recently clicked the link in the popup. It took me directly to the Firefox website where I regrettably downloaded and updated the browser. I've since run multiple Norton and Malwarebytes scans, which have found no issues. It may be a difference in the definition of popups (from the toolbar vs within a browser page)... Is this a legitimate update message from Firefox? If it is not, are there any other steps I should take (e.g., reinstall Firefox)? I appreciate your help!

I have been getting asked to update my firefox for the past 2 weeks now. Everytime, it asks me to update my firefox. I update it, and then when I quit firefox (restart computer) and re enter, it asks me to enter my admin details to be able to install a helper tool to finish installation.

Attached is a video of that happening. Essentially, I have downloaded the latest version directly off of mozilla website, but it continously asks me to update & install helper tool.

When credentials are entered, it doesn't do anything. When I press cancel, the application does not respond and need to force quit. Either way, I cannot access firefox everytime it asks me for an update.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lately when I manually check Firefox for updates. From the menu Help, then About Firefox. It will download the update, ask to restart Firefox. It will restart Firefox, but NOT install the update. It continues to fail to install until I close Firefox myself, wait a good minute, then load Firefox again and it will install the update. I can make this happen to every computer with Firefox installed.

using 64 bit Linux here.

I download an update, but it doesn't do anything. It constantly tells me I need to download an update. Currently using 133.0.3

I managed to get an update through Linux, but now I'm having trouble with Linux. I suspect I need to remove Firefox and reload it. I tried to do that one time but it didn't fix the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

My new Win 11 PC out the box with a Firefox installed on it, worked fine for 2 weeks then an update from you guys causes it to crash, it is stuck in a perpertual reboot loop as windows crash, close then the app restarts despite being told to close, only a reboot will stop it from trying to open and then cause memory leaks.

Also, when are you guys going to incorporate a "Roll back feature" for these situations, so that the older working version can be retrieved.

All my important logins are on firefox and your programmers, whatever they did have jeopardised my ability to access important accounts.

I best check my androind tablet hasn't updates or I will be up the wazoo without a failsafe... Well played Mozilla Devs...

I installed firefox on ubuntu 24.04 following the guidelines from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

I followed the direction from the section "Install Firefox .deb package for Debian-based distributions", adding the https://packages.mozilla.org/apt repository, prioritizing that over firefox snap from ubunto repors and finally installing firefox.

All good, now I have the latest firefox.

Question: what entry should I add to the "Unattended-Upgrade::Allowed-Origins" section of "/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades" in order to enable unattended upgrades for the mozilla repo?

Googling this got me different contradictory recommendations that did not get my system to firefox 146 until I manually run the apt update/upgrade.

Thanks!
