Hi, I recently tried to update my video driver, and afterward I was unable to login to Forge of Empires. They said I needed to restart Firefox, which I did. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked on it twice, opening two instances, and then closed one without allowing either one to finish loading first. The one I didn't close only had one tab, so I went to Recently Closed Tabs to see about restoring my previous session, but it was empty. I also found all of the tabs in my Simple Tab Groups extension were gone so I couldn't restore it from there. My bookmarks still remain. I followed instructions I found to use the .jsonlz4 files, but they also only had the one tab. As suggested in another support page, I also searched for index.dat files, but found none relating to Firefox. Should I have any hope of recovery, or do I need to start over from scratch? Please help. Thanks, Geoffrey

Every time I open Firefox, my open windows open, as they should, except the front tabs in as many as half of windows get stuck trying to open! The screen is blank, and you can see the spinning wheel in the tab window above the toolbar. Usually, if I click to stop it, then hit the refresh button, it will finally load the tab. Why can't they all just load, for while they don't, FF will still run up nearly all my RAM, maybe trying to load takes more juice. I don't know, but it's not supposed to be doing this. Opening tabs if a pretty fundamental function of any browser...

I have multiple windows open with multiple tabs on each. Most created before I had a Firefox login (if that makes any difference).

I am upgrading my os on my Mac and somehow either a) keep all the windows with all their tabs open (preferable) or b) easily create some record of what they all are so I could relaunch them if a) is impossible.

How can I do this?

Let's say I have 20 windows open, each with 30 tabs on. Instead of these windows consuming resources and sitting open, I want a really, really easy way of "saving" each window as is (as they're organised by topic), closing them, and then by hitting just a couple of buttons voila, I can see all the potential windows, select what I need and have it open, and easy to shut again in reverse.

How can I do this? I can't make head nor tail of Firefox bookmarks - have examined the menu option, have read the articles, still as clear as mud. For example, "save all tabs" doesn't seem to mean save all tabs, it just means save tabs in the window you've maximised. Then after creating its own folder in Bookmark menu, when I added a new tab to it I thought that would update. It doesn't. Then I manually did another "save all tabs" for that menu - and the new tab didn't appear.

I don't even know if Bookmarks is the way to even attempt what I'm trying to do here in my question. Does anyone have any great tips on how to minimise the firefox window clutter, but have it really accessible easily?

Thanks.

I have the add-on Tab Stats. This lists and groups tabs by unique domain or unique URL listing duplicates in a separate sub-tree. On each url item there is listed the last access date/time.

Is it possible to get a list and group tabs by last accessed date? I've put in a request on the extension for this feature - New tree - List by age exponentially but the authors appear inactive and unresponsive.

What is the best way to encourage development of this feature if not available in pre-existing extension or feature (which is preferred of course)?

I've been considering switching to Firefox from Chromium for quite a while. However, there's one feature in Chromium that I can't do without: the task manager. In Chromium, I'm able to stop a tab's process, but the tab still remains open, displaying an error. Even if I refresh the tab, the tab's process restarts as if the tab was just refreshed, without any crashes. I'm aware that Firefox also has a task manager, but when I stop a tab's process using Firefox's task manager, the tab closes as well. Is there a method to forcefully stop a tab's process without having to close the entire tab? Perhaps there's an add-on that can help with this? I typically have a large number of tabs open — more than my PC can handle — so this feature is essential for me.

I asked this some months ago, and the thread was closed as one response was "selected as the solution", although it sure wasn't me who selected it, as it wasn't really a solution.

I can't understand why the Windows menu shows us all the open windows, in no order whatsoever. Not chronological or alphabetical, just random placements, making finding anything a dizzying & time consuming experience, as I have to look up and down each & every time. I don't know of any other browser that gives no option as to how to sort this list.

I don't care if it's chronological, or if sorted alphabetically, which technically it is. However, it's in the order of the specific tab title, not the website's name, which is of little use, since how many of us remember the title of every tab we've opened? We remember the website, which is far more relevant, since we may only briefly glance at the exact title of the page. I don't know why there could not be the option to sort it via the website name, as the Task Manager is sorted that way! Just do the same with the Window menu, and quit making life harder on your users... it's not rocket science.

Mac OSX 10.13, FireFox 115.1.0esr (64-bit): previously cmd-click on link would open in new background tab. Now it opens the link in BOTH current tab and a new background tab. This has started occurring in the last few days (mid Aug 2023). This is especially a problem when viewing CraigsList where it was very helpful to be able to cmd-click on links of no interest to mark them as "read" while remaining on the main list page. Now it is necessary to back up to previous page (main list) after clicking on each link... Is this perhaps a recent change (I had auto-update turned on)?

I was downloading Davinci Resolve on a 2021 Lenovo Laptop running Windows whatever it is, and then the software asked to restart. I said NO because I wanted to make sure all my tabs would be safe. I literally am caretaking two parents and had a BUNCH of tabs open for each of their needs and my own. I had maybe 7 browser windows open and each one had several tabs open.

Usually random updates and restarts have NEVER ever lost my browser windows or tabs. But this time? After I said DO NOT RESTART, it did a glitch anyway without restart and lost ALLLLL my tabs!!!!

I could see all the 7 windows at the taskbar but nothing was loaded on them.

For the first time there was no "restore previous session."

YES I tried to do the whole Jason restore of previous sessions, copied a folder onto my desktop, deleted the ones I was told to, and for some reason the new session updated the old session on the desktop and it all failed and now that is gone. My last hope was the ONE file that was not session updated (not "recovery," not "previous") but an "upgrade" file and when I clicked on it, I get the box that went nowhere (attached screenshot). Now it has restarted too many times to restore the "previous" session.

Yes I still have my browser history BUT.........

My only hope is going through literally THOUSANDS of website history I still had but one month literally had 4000 sites (I do a lot of research). So many were important but not thousands. I have been perusing each one, one by one but WHICH could have been an OPEN TAB????

Is there ANY easy way to see which of the thousands was actually an OPEN TAB???

Thanks in advance.

Hello dear support,

Writing to inquire what I supposed to do to keep my tabs recover when I close Mozilla or restart my Mac. I've just closed it, and shut down process on the hometab. But they dissapeared yet again! Also Firefox updated to never version. Could you please advice what I should do if after restarting Firefox I don't see my tabs, given that login to Firefox account completed, and "open previous windows and tabs" selected.

Thanks!

I know this seems like a dumb question, well he should know what he did to make that happen! The problem is I don't notice it when it occurs, it's after the fact when I look up ans see all those duplicate tabs open or come along and see that they are open after another person was on the computer. I think Alt Home shortcut would dup home tabs, but know not doing that.

All Tabs duplicate themselves sometimes and I don't know why. It must be something I am doing, but haven't figured out what. Also, happens to wife and all she uses is Facebook.

Example I normally have 6 tabs open, something is happening that all of a sudden I have 12 tabs open, they are always a duplicate of the 6 that were already open. Today when she was using FB, there was 18 tabs open, 3 of each.

Does anyone have a clue to what stupid thing we must be doing to make that happen? Is there some special key combination that would make that happen?

I am on FF 116.0.2, but this has been going on for a year or more, so not related to this release. Just something I must be doing or a combination of keys??
