Hi, there.

After performing the most recent Firefox update, I was greeted with the "create a new profile prompt", rather than having it open my old one. When going to "about:profiles", ALL FILES in the Root Directory of my old, default profile have the same date as the update, or after. Not a single file is older than that and all my history and bookmarks are gone. The option "Restore Previous Session" was not shown after the update.

PLEASE HELP!!

PS: This happened on a Macbook Pro. All other profiles are the same as they were before the update, having kept all history and bookmarks.

A few days ago (today is November 9th 2025), my PC restarted itself while idling and when I got back, all my bookmarks in Firefox were just gone. The bookmarks toolbar, which I use constantly, was also gone. Furthermore, I can't even create new bookmarks. And I mean of ANY sort. Doesn't matter if click the little bookmark star when I'm on the page I want to save, or if I manually try to type it in by right-clicking the toolbar and choosing "Add bookmark..." None of it works!

I tried going to "Manage Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore" where I see 12 restore points. I've tried them all, but I get the same message every time: "Unable to process the backup file"

I've searched the Mozilla support articles and have only found one other entry from a person who seems to have had the same problem, here: https://support.mozilla.org/gl/questions/1504803

This person managed to solve it themselves by using the "Refresh Firefox" option, so I tried that, but it didn't work. The only thing I got out of it was losing all my extensions. I had been warned about that beforehand, so while it's a little more than just annoying that I've lost my Avast! Password Manager, which had a LOT of passwords I can't remember, not backing that up manually before running the refresh was entirely a brain fart on my own part.

Just to be sure, I've checked my Windows Update history to see if the culprit could be Windows rather than Firefox, but the last one was the 25H2 update that ran on October 17th. If that had been to blame, the problem would have manifested itself much earlier, so I'm fairly certain that has nothing to do with it.

So, two problems to solve here:

1. 1 - How do I fix this bookmark problem?
2. 2 - Is it perhaps possible to restore my Avast! Password Manager?

I would be VERY grateful if someone could help me with this! Like the person in the linked post, collecting these bookmarks has taken me over a decade and they've been used so frequently that - at least for some of them - I don't even remember the URL's of the sites anymore, because I literally haven't typed them in manually for years.

Using Firefox on Mac (iOS 15.6.1) - restarted Firefox for updates and it's deleted ALL my bookmarks - what the hell? Everything gone from the toolbar, but I can still see them on my phone?

(This is the last straw of a string of bad experiences with Firefox - I think I'm switching to Chrome if there's no easy solution!)

previously all the bookmarks were showing on the firefox left side , now all the bookmarks are gone . However when we are trying to import the bookmarks from other browser the option is not responding or working, So how can we get back those bookmarks?

For the third month in a row every, EVERY!!!, password I have saved to my Firefox browser have disappeared. Poof, GONE! For as long as I've used Firefox, 10-15 years, it had never happened before September of 25 Some of these password, prior to September, I'd had for years. Yes, I know I should change them over time, but I haven't. How do i recover them? I'm really Pi---d off. Help!

Due to the previous thread locked, I had to start a new threat but it continues from the previous.

When using the scrounger located here; https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html. It creates a JSON file which can be renamed to as used in session profiles; sessionstore.jsonlz4. This is exactly what I've done then copied it to the new profile location: \Profiles\jj55ob2s.Default (release) and I don't see my tabs restored on a FireFox engine clone browser ?

I'm sure someone will have answered this somewhere but is there a way to backup and restore the native Mozilla Tab Groups. I've seen plenty of people recommend other Group Tab extensions but I like the inbuilt one combined with Containers.

I've read that you can backup the whole Mozilla profile folder and this should work but I've tried that and failed, I used a few extensions to backup sessions and that also failed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello i have recently continued the windows 10 extended version and i cannot regain my bookmarks that use to be there. They are not in the back up or the restore options in the bookmarks tab. We have tried to solve this with articles off of the Mozilla website and we have not been able to regain the bookmark access.

Hello Team, today suddenly while restarting the PC, I did not close Firefox and restarted it. But when I opened it, a new Firefox appeared in front of me where Password bookmarks are nothing, how can I get them back?

Hello, I need urgent help. My Firefox browser started acting glitchy, so I restarted my computer. When it came back on, Firefox had lost all my bookmarks and passwords. I've spent 10 hours trying to fix it myself. I've found my old data files on the computer, but I can't get Firefox to use them. Safari works perfectly fine. I need you to remotely access my iMac and recover my Firefox profile with all my passwords and bookmarks.

I restarted my computer, but my tabs did not reappear. I restarted, but I have lost all my bookmarks, and I cannot add bookmarks. All Mozilla recommendations have failed.

do know computers very well, have used firefox for all my web browsing, firefox kept crashing according to screen so it opened saved apparent older version and I lost all my bookmarks and passwords, please help

Following a restart procedure on Windows 10 today, all my saved Firefox Passwords have now gone! (Firefox 144.0.2 (64-bit))

Can I recover them?

After most recent update all my bookmarks and passwords disappeared and I cannot seem to recover them. This is extremely frustrating. Has anyone else had this happen? I tried using the recovery process but it did not work.

Mozilla, in their infinite wisdom, sent me a note about something new in firefox, by displaying it in a new instance of Firefox.

It wasn’t until I closed my normal session, that I realised a new instance of firefox was also running, and shut it down on.

In shutting the new instance down after my usual session, it overwrote all my normal tab settings🤬

Q1. Are my normal tab settings recoverable? Q2. Why did Mozilla think it a good idea to open a new instance of Firefox to send me information, rather than simply open a new tab.
