I have a new computer and I had previously saved a backup of the files of my Firefox profile. I followed the steps in this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles but it didn't work, none of my settings or bookmarks are in place. The backup profile had a different name so I copied the contents and I used the default profile that was created instead of creating a new one. Why didn't it work? Does it matter that I'm using the same profile from the backup on a different new computer as well?

Running OS 10.13.3 and had the latest version of Firefox running as my default browser, auto-updating. on 3.11.2018, I started getting the missing profile error. I followed several support threads with this issue, like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible. I could not find or repair the profile.ini file or even find a Firefox folder in ~/Library/Application Support or ~/Library/caches. I had a Mozilla folder in the former but not Firefox. I also had Firefox synced to my Firefox Android browser.
I've reinstalled 58.0.2 a few times, nothing helps. I cannot find profiles.ini anywhere on my computer.
I've tried including the Troubleshooting information, but it doesn't work, I assume because I'm on Chrome?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I've tried deleting the firefox profile folders and launching the application. Still get the same error message. I tried deleting all firefox files, restarted and reinstalled and still get the same error message. I had Sophos Home installed and removed that and it still did not fix the problem. Also when i try to launch the profile manager via terminal it still just gives me the profile error message. This is extremely annoying.

win-key-R: firefox.exe -P, -p or -ProfileManager, does not run profile Manager, but starts the browser.
firefox.exe is located under: C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
I tried opening cmd prompt at the above location ( C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox\ )
to run firefox.exe by hand and all supported firefox switches only result in the browser starting.I
I'll try searching the registry for firefox.exe and see if anything is there.

This doesn't help because it asks me to use the profile manager, but any attempt at launching Firefox or anything inside it produces the same result.
I've also tried replacing Firefox with a fresh copy.
The Profile folder is present in the usual place and I've verified that I have read-write permission on the folder and everything within it. 57.0.4 on MacOS 10.13.2.

Hi,
I use FEBE and Profile Manager, because I have tailored FF to my small screen, and personal needs, with many add-ons.
I recently made a new profile for FF42, and used FEBE to overwrite it with my customary profile settings.
All went well until I came on here to ask a question about my Thunderbird: Halfway through asking the question FF froze, and I had to kill it in Process Explorer. When I opened it again, the first tab just said 'connecting', and the whole thing froze as soon as that came up. Clearing all my caches with CCleaner made no difference. There was no malware detected by Malwarebytes.
I opened a previous version of FF (Thank g-d for FEBE!), and tried to overwrite the stuck profile with my current settings again, but it just froze, and had to be terminated from Process Explorer.
I tried to delete the corrupt profile in Profile Manager, but that just froze as well. :/
Luckily, it didn't break Profile Manager altogether, and, after reloading it, I could make a new profile for 42, and give it my preferred FEBE profile, and am using it now. As I don't know what corrupted the first 42, I'm a bit wary that this one might break too.
The corrupt 42 is still in the list in Profile Manager, but freezes everything when I try to delete it. How can I clean it out?
Thanks for any ideas as to what went wrong, and any tips on clearing the corrupt profile without damaging my good ones. Have I been locked out of that profile by something changing my permissions? I would have thought that MWB would have detected any obvious mischief.
Cheers.

Alright, I use Firefox like normal, but sometime today it stopped working, I get "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" error, I looked it up using safari, followed every possible interpretation of the instructions to no avail, I deleted the profiles folder and file, in both cache, and application support, on both my user folder and global HDD folder, no fix whatsoever, I don't know why this isn't working (yes I checked the hidden files, I searched my entire HDD and found no results for anything remotely named "Profile"/"Profiles" and I don't know what else to say.
I have checked: Application support (on every user) & Cache (on every user)
I don't know what's up, I also reinstalled Firefox after deleting everything related to it and I just don't know.
What happens when the profiles file isnt where it supposed to be. Library/application support/... No firefox!

I had to reinstall my OS (linuxmint - debian edition - 201403). I left /home intact. After the process, I checked the profile -- nothing was changed. So I ran Firefox. But, my bookmarks didn't load (only the few that come with a new install). It didn't load the preferences either. I tried some tricks to get it to load my profile (i.e. create a new profile and copy the contents, Help>Troubleshooting Information -- Reset). Still no joy. I even tried running in a shell with -P <profile> for both the original and new profiles. Still no bookmarks (or anything from my original profile).
Also, on the Help>Troubleshooting Information page, I click 'open directory' and see my original profile.
What's wrong, and how do I fix it?

-- I was using firefox all the time until recently; a week and a half or so ago I was doing my school work using firefox when it crashed. I brought it back up and it crashed again in about 10 minutes and then since then it will NOT work at all. I tried to bring it up and an error message of "missing profile" stating: "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." -- (which doesn't make sense to me I never had one to begin with?)... I have removed firefox completely from my device and reinstalled it 3 times and it still does the same thing. I have tried troubleshooting it and it does work I have tried to change it to earlier versions.... nothing. I'm not certain what to do. My laptop is a Lenovo Flex 3 windows 10 OS.
Thank you all in advance or you help. Hopefully it can be figured out.
