I have been using Firefox for a while. And then I had a different customer laptop which did not have one and I could not install anything. So I used Chrome. Now with a new laptop when I try to import the settings into Firefox, there are multiple duplicate entries found.

Is there an automated way to run through the same and clean it up?

Just received a supposed Firefox Update Marked "Important Firefox update available. Click "Install" to continue" Yet when I click the Install I get a Warning " You are attempting to install an add-on from 'performoverlyoriginalapplication.icu. Make sure you trust this site before continuing" Is this a legitimate Firefox update, and IF IT IS - why do I get that warning from Firefox. I do NOT know, so therefore can NOT "trust" performoverlyoriginalapplication.icu. Can someone who knows this subject better PLEASE advise whethere this is a legitimate update for Firefox and can they be trusted. Also IF that is the caes why does Firefox send me a "warning"???? Thanks for your help.

Clarification about JNLP files

Hello all,

I've read some bug reports and discussions about the JNLP files blocked in Firefox ( JNLP should be treated as executable , Should not treat JNLP files as Executables (revert bug 1392955) on ESR-68 , Improve usability for JNLP and other executables and JNLP should not be considered an executable extension ). All I'm understanding is it has been blocked since Firefox 67, then "allowed" back again, then blocked for security purposes in Firefox 78. To sum it up, the bug 1576762 is still open, JNLP are still blocked. Nowadays, it's not possible to directly launch a JNLP file, you've got to download it and run it thereafter. Am I right ?

Also, I've taken note of the Firefox ESR release "too late". I've installed the "mainstream" Firefox release on a server in order to be remotely used by end users (via a RDS server, only to browse a internal website, they can't browse the web). What are the results/differences/cons (except the extended support) ?

Thanks in advance for your replies. Jo.

Once upon a time when trying to create a blank tab, I accidentally typed "about:blank/" and this command doesn't work if the backslash is there.

Now anytime I want to create a blank tab and I type "about:blank" it automatically includes the backslash.

Because this phrase/command doesn't show up in my search history, even after clearing all of my data, Firefox keeps "helpfully" popping that backslash into the field whenever I start to type the command.

How can I make Firefox forget I ever made this stupid typo?! (Would clearing "Site Preferences" and/or "Offline Web Site Data" work? I admit I haven't cleared those two things.)

Firefox's Clear Data control allows you to clear both Cookies AND the Cache. This makes perfect sense, since both of these things can be used to identify/track people.

But from what I can tell, if you enable the option Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed, this doesn't clear the Cache, only Cookies?

In fact, the only way to clear the Cache at restart is to dig deep into the Clear history when Firefox closes settings, which few people would know to look in.

So, correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this giving users a false sense of security? They think all the Cookies will be deleted when they open Firefox, but actually the Cache is still there, allowing them to be easily identified?

Personally, I'm less concerned about cookies because they are opt-in (here in the UK). But as for being tracked via the cache, we have no say in that, so that's what I'm more concerned about.

In the history section that opens with ctrl+j, the Added and Last modified columns are blank and only sort by name order when sorting by them. What information is supposed to be in those columns and how can I have that information tracked? Also while I'm at it, what information would be displayed in the Tags column, which is also empty to me.

Thanks for your answer.

Dear community,

I would like to bring up a topic that is DRIVING ME CRAZY. I am developer and frequently access my own services on unsecured http servers for testing. Spin up a new docker container, test it, tear it down. No SSL required, no time to mess with encryption.

But if you type in https just a single time for your http server, you are f*#&ed. Sorry for the wording, but this is how it is. You think "OH NO, WHAT DID I DO? NOT AGAIN!!!" Because it is just impossible to access the service with http in the future, Firefox has it locked to SSL (Domain and Port). But of course there is no SSL so it will NEVER work.

Latest example: JetBrains TeamCity. They have a simple Docker container I want to access with Firefox. I spin it up, connect with Firefox with http and it immediately tells me "Secure Connection Failed". WHAT? WHY? I typed http. Why secure? Why can't I simply connect? Using curl on CLI just gives me a beautiful HTML response.

I understand that for the majority of users SSL is a good thing. But shouldn't there at least be an OPTION to disable all this enforced SSL usage? My beloved Firefox is my everyday productivity killer. It makes me sad.
