Since the Firefox 99 update loading some pages (for example, the Gmail sign-in page) using Firefox on my Linux Mint machine, that I'm running a VNC remote desktop session on, results in a crash.

Crash report ID: bp-5dc1e89d-dc1f-40f2-9dbe-7f4380220419

I've tried running Firefox in safe-mode and the crash doesn't happen, but turning off hardware acceleration, swapping to default themes, removing all extensions, and completely removing Firefox and the .mozilla folder and then re-installing Firefox have not changed the crash behaviour in the absence of the safe-mode flag.

I would appreciate help in identifying what other paths of investigation I can take.

I started using Linux Mint a few months ago, and since then have had issues with opening Firefox on startup. The attached image shows roughly what Firefox does the first time I try to open it after starting my computer. I usually have to close and re-open it 5-10 times before it will launch properly. At this point, I usually manually recover my previous session. Does anybody know of a potential fix to this problem? I have tried updating Firefox and have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Mozilla Firefox for linux Mint 99.0.1 (64 bit) - mint-001

Using Outlook web, when viewing pdf documents, it displays strange symbols (incorrect font sets are probably used).

I point out that using Chrome the problem does not arise.

I also installed the microsoft fonts thinking it might solve the problem I attach illustrative image.

Best Regards. Salvatore

This is so strange as to be almost unbelieveable. It began as a profile issue. Everything is okay now, but there was much weirdness. I think this is a worthwhile read and I'm eager to hear any ideas regarding what happened.

The bottom line: If Firefox changed the name of a mount point, that was/is a bad idea -- developers take note.

I run Firefox (latest) in a Linux Mint Guest inside a VirtualBox virtual machine with a Windows Host. The Firefox application is installed as usual, but the profile is here: 'FireFox Profile.vhd' -- a virtual USB that, on VM boot, VBox mounts here: '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/'.

The profile is: '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/mwad0hks.default/'.

Events: 1 - In a proven Linux Mint VM, today I booted the VM as usual but Firefox apparently lost my bookmarks & history. Why? I'll probably never know. 2 - I created a new profile hoping that in the process, I'd be given the option to use an existing profile -- no dice, FF created a new, blank profile. 3 - I discovered that I now had these: 3.1 - '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/', and 3.2 - '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'. 4 - I closed FF, launched Nemo, and tried to delete 'FireFox Profile1' but was refused. 5 - After much fiddling of the contents of 'FireFox Profile.vhd' mounted in Windows (to make it accessable outside the VM) I backed up 'FireFox Profile.vhd' -- good thing I did that. 6 - I realized that the mount point must have been renamed from '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' to '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'. 7 - Sure enough, I launched the VM and deleted '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' -- remember that '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/' could not be deleted. 8 - So I concluded that "something" must have renamed the Linux VM mount point from '/media/mark/FireFox Profile/' to '/media/mark/FireFox Profile1/'.

I conclude that FF must have done the renaming in step 2.

I launched the Linux VM aiming to search how to rename the mount point back to its original name and low and behold, FF now found the correct profile and everything was happiness again. End of story. Or is it?

The message about the "Browser being managed by your organization" that shows up in Firefox settings, is new. I've been using Linux mint with Firefox for over a year on my own personal laptop and this message just showed up in my Firefox settings kind of out of the blue.. Can it be related to version 100? I was just trying to do something online. totally unrelated to the Firefox settings, and now I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to get rid of this policy. I tried to set the AppUpdate policy to true, but it still will not allow me to check for updates in the settings, or if I go under help, about. I do not use the laptop often, so this is the first time I've been unable to check for updates, and I would prefer not to have an enterprise security policy running on my personal laptop. I do not know how it came to be on the laptop but any help removing, or resetting the controls would be greatly appreciated.

FFox 101.0.1 (64-bit) running in Linux Mint 20.3

Just installed the latest Mint (clean install) and the latest FFox.

FFox tabs are arranged along the bottom of the window! Tabs only appear below the bookmarks panel on the left. On the right, the browser panel is atop the tabs, so the tabs can't be seen. New tabs can't be seen. There appears to be no setting to control top/bottom tab placement -- of course, I want tabs across the top and visible, please. Help!

Also, above "Preferences" > "General" (about:preferences#general), there's an info box that says "Your browser is being managed by your organization". Help!

Regards, Mark.

Good Morning, Group!

I subscribe to the IEEE.ORG newsletter.

If I click on their link, it brings up a blank page in Firefox:

https://spectrum.ieee.org/post-quantum-cryptography-nist?utm_source=techalert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=techalert-07-14-22&mkt_tok=NzU2LUdQSC04OTkAAAGFnAJMEXFrlR7vD0yYOspzMUWdvNdvtGqNnHnbEZI2pUuVQelTwBgCQS3pKCdhLl9XSWiE7boikHvLl6N43J65wa4D-JECtQ23ME38QU_rZMG4

That same link renders correctly in Chromium Web Browser (on Linux Mint 20.3)

By truncating the link to https://spectrum.ieee.org/ Firefox brings up that parent page O.K.

This behavior is not confined to this link in particular. It has behaved this way for some weeks (months?) now, in previous newsletters.

This is not an onerous situation but, if it could be fixed, it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- Ralph

Running Firefox on Linux Mint Mate 19.2 for several years. After updating FF to v. 102.0, started to experience random screen freezes- no response to mouse or keyboard input. Closing and restarting FF resets the browser but it eventually refreezes. Also since update, various profile elements such as font size do not display properly on some sites and settings on some sites are not retained on restart, as was the case in previous versions. Tabs added to home page do not launch until selected, where in previous versions of FF those sites loaded automatically when opening FF. Updating to v. 102.0.1 has made no difference.

Hi Support,

Since my Linux Mint System updated Firefox to 103.0.2 certain websites will not play videos seemingly because Firefox or Adblocker is stopping the website from getting/using cookies for adverts.

Websites like YouTube, https://www.gbnews.uk/watchlive and channle4.com will not play or hang at times. The Youtube videos in question are ones that have adverts switched on as videos with no adverts run fine.

I am using Microsoft Edge as well and it play all the videos with no problems.

I am running the Linux Mint 20.3

Thanks Raymond

I am using firefox v104 on linux mint. This problem happened this evening. Every tab i open shows the same error.

I tried the solutions suggested in other similar forum posts like >safemode (tabs still crashed) >driver update (my drivers are up to date as far i can tell) >deleting cache and reinstalling firefox (tabs crash). I took a backup of my bookmarks and extensions as suggeated in another forum post. > one youtube video (https://youtu.be/F9VaXwSB_po) suggested toggling media.cubeb.sandbox in the config section. The tabs started loading after that but it wasnt that useful as i wasnt able to get any videos to play in the browser.

Also, i don't really know if the issue is related, but chrome tabs were also not loading or responding ('Page unresponsive' error).

Please help. Thank you :)

I'm using Firefox 104 on LInux Mint 19. In settings I have downloads set to the Download folder and "always ask" is checked. However, when downloading a file the dialog opens to some random folder that ff creates under /run/user/1000/doc, every time, and every time I have to navigate to where I actually want to put the file otherwise I'd have to go searching deep into the file system to find it. In earlier versions (I still have a copy of ff 71 installed too) The download dialog opens to the download folder and if I save the file elsewhere the next download opens to the folder where saved the last file. This is the behavior that I want in ff 104. How can I set that up?

Hi my OS Linux mint. 20 Running FF 106.0.1 The problem i have is editing large pdf ie multiple pages. I seem to be able to modify 1 page and that saves just fine. But if i try and modify multiple pages of the same pdf no changes get saved.

I also tried print to pdf and that came back with errors. I ended up having to split the pdf into separate pages and do each page individually and then re merge them

Any suggestions please

I am mainly using firefox (108 at this time) in Linux Mint and I have sync setup with some others systems (even older linux distribs with icewease and windows). I have a lot of trouble with certain sites when my profile '~/.mozilla/firefox' is loaded and my sync account is connected or not. (seems to be related to javascript or similar - some wait circles never stop and nothing is displayed) I assume I have something corrupted in the profile. If move .mozilla/firefox profile and starts from scratch those websites are working good.

But I have a lot of bookmarks and does not want to restart from scratch. I already did that one year ago and it seems it when I restore sync when the problems arise.

Any idea?
