So ever since the desktop browser got updated i have been experiencing critical crashes and lag where my pc screen freezes and then goes to black until i restart my graphics card and quit firefox in addition to tabs crashing and very weird performance issues overall, any fixes for this issue?

Wäre es nicht Sinn voller mal Firefox so zu Optimieren das er nicht gleich 50% des Arbeitsspeicher belegt. Ich beobachte schon länger das wenn Firefox eine weile Läuft sehr viel Ram braucht. Da gibts andere Browser wie Brave die viel weniger Ram belegen als Firefox.

Könnt ihr da nicht mal ansetzten und was Optimieren Bei den Ram Preisen Aktuell kauft man sich ja kein neuen RAM.

before v151.0.2, didn't have a problem with firefox, now with this new release, it is really really slow, takes some time to start and load pages. what happened??

Looking at the Task Manager in Windows, Firefox is using 2700-3000 MB of Memory when running. I only have 13 tabs at the time of writing this but it is driving my memory up to 50%. (I have 32GB RAM). Is this normal? When I open the Firefox manager, the GPU seems to take like 1-2 GB and i think it is driving up the Memory. I also have UBlock Origin, Privacy Badger and a third extension called Copy Plain Text. This is just concerning me and would like to know if I'm overreacting.

henn typing website keeps going to about blank/ crashes all time/ locks up unable to open sites like home depot/autozone xtra slow respondes. must be time to use something else firefox has gotten unusable

Immediately after restart and subsequently starting Firefox 153.0.3 my Windows 11, 16GB system shows that Firefox has started 11 processes, five of which account for most of the 1.2GB of RAM used. Why does Firefox run so many processes, and how can I make it use less RAM?

Has there been a change to the way that crashhelper.exe behaves in recent releases of Firefox?

If I disable all my browser extensions in the current Firefox v154.0.0 (rel. 18-Aug-2026) and restart my Win 10 ESU laptop then the first time I launch Firefox with a single tab open (i.e, my Firefox Home page with search and 4 rows of shortcuts) I typically see ~ 6 instances of firefox.exe in Task Manager that all disappear as expected when Firefox is closed.

However, if I immediately re-open Firefox I typically see ~ 11 instances of firefox.exe plus an additional process called crashhelper.exe (located in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) load into memory. On occasion the crashreporter.exe process will also briefly appear in Task Manager and then quickly disappear. All these extra Firefox processes unload from memory as expected when I close Firefox, and if I go to about:crashes or (Help | More Troubleshooting Information | Crash Reports for the Last 3 Days | All Crash Reports) it shows "No crash reports have been submitted" in the past 3 days, so my Firefox browser appears to be working correctly even if crashhelper.exe and crashreporter.exe start running in the background.

NOTE: I can reproduce this behaviour if I prevent Malwarebytes Premium from launching at boot-up (i.e., if Settings | General | Windows Startup | Launch Malwarebytes in the Background When Windows is Started is OFF) and restart my computer, so I don't believe that the appearance of crashhelper.exe (or crashreporter.exe) has anything to do with my Malwarebytes real-time protection.

Anyone else had problems the last two weeks with performance? I'm on a macbook (Tahoe 26.3.1) and in the last two weeks tabs are constantly crashing or freezing. I have never had this before. It's doing my head in and I'm about to make the painful move over to Chrome if nobody has any ideas how to fix it?! I don't want to do that as all my bookmarks etc are set up on Firefox...

Chrome is using 296 MB while Firefox is using 590 MB.

What am I doing wrong?

Firefox was running very slowly on my computer. Web pages take a long time to load and sometimes Firefox becomes unresponsive. I have restarted Firefox, but the problem is still happening. Please help me fix this issue.

Your site has been freezing daily, mostly twice, in last 3 moths or so - on different networks and different devices, causing me to lost relevant data. As your avid user for long time, I am considering to switch in spite of familiarity. Do better for you current and potential new user as I am very much unlike to recommend you and use anymore. Yes, I'm using the dreaded Windows 10, I do understand it's at end-of-use, however this prob's been happening for ages. It's just got a little worse lately! (I've also got another hard drive with Windows 7 on it I swap the Windows 10 drive for sometimes. And we don't talk about the Windows XP hard drive with my music software on it. AARRRGGGHHH!!!! But the everyday drive with this problem is definitely Windows )

I don't use masses of extensions, just a VPN (which is there but not used a lot!) and is Proxy VeePN (that's its name, blame the designers, not me!) When I'm NOT using Firefox for a few moments, I hear the fans speed up, the hard drive spins like it's about to take off (old computer here!) The moment I touch the mouse, the fans all slump back to normal and the red 'HIGH USAGE' mark against Firefox vanishes back down to 'LOW'. Which makes it annoyingly difficult to analyze what's happening cos the moment I touch the mouse to find out what's happening, it stops happening!

Despite the above and its memory addiction - left to itself it munches memory like me with a crate of chocolate bars! - I do love Firefox best of all the browsers. I kinda know what causes the memory problem, by the way. I don't know all the techie terms but here's what's going on. Imagine you've got a house with an untidy kid in it. Every time one room gets too messy to use, you move into the next room. Eventually you run out of rooms. Then you restart the house back from day one, all the rooms are tidy again and you can use them all individually and happily - until Untidy Kid turns back up!

I'm on Firefox 148.0.2. If you've got any ideas about the CPU usage, I'm [email removed]@hotmail.com. It doesn't seem to matter what websites I've got in the browser, it just does this when I've got it parked in the background, it's like it's twiddling virtual thumbs through boredom cos it's not being used.
