Several days ago, I started getting a message when Firefox hangs or freezes saying: firefox is not responding...close or wait for response. I have tried restarting computer and clearing cookies and cache. I am very inexperienced and do not know what to do. I have Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox. My plugins are up to date; am little intimidated to restart in safe mode or reinstall Firefox. I read when refreshing that extensions and extension data is removed.....not sure what that means. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Firefox is crashing on certain websites. This is on a Windows 7 desktop. By "crashing" I mean it freezes up, and when I look at it in Windows Task Manager it says that it's "not responding". I have to click "end task" and then restart Firefox. I've noticed this happening really a lot on chicagotribune.com in the last few days. I have Firefox 41.0. I don't know if this has anything to do with Flash, but I have the latest version of the Flash Player plugin, 19.0.0.185. I also changed the Flash settings to disable hardware acceleration. When I view the same website using Chrome, I'm not having a problem, although I haven't spent a lot of time doing that. Also, many other websites seem perfectly fine -- Wikipedia, for example. But I'm pretty sure I've had the "not responding" problem on some other websites, I just can't remember which ones. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm a long time Firefox user but this is my first time posting on the support forum.

I am running Windows 10, and have recently started experiencing trouble with Firefox. After trying a lot of other solutions from the support forums (including creating a new Firefox profile), I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox from a fresh download. I experience the same trouble: very shortly after starting Firefox, I hear constant disk activity, and Firefox becomes unresponsive. My only choice at that point is to end the program using the red "X" (program close button). As soon as I do this the disk activity ends and the computer runs normally.

I cannot include troubleshooting information with this post because I can't keep Firefox running long enough.

The same performance issues happen with Firefox running in Safe mode. I had to resort to Microsoft Edge to post this question.

Any troubleshooting assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am continually getting the problem that the "plugin is not responding" at first it was only once every few days, now it is almost every time I open firefox and it continues to happen after closing it down and restarting. I have gone through the answers to this problem on your site but it is still the same, please help I cannot get anything done on my laptop because this is now a constant problem.

The past couple days firefox is consistently hanging when I try to open one particular website, where I have never had issues before. I can open the website fine with Internet Explorer. I tried refreshing Firefox, tried clearing the cache and cookies and tried unchecking the "use hardware acceleration when available," but none of these helped. What can I try next to troubleshoot this? I am running Windows Vista and Firefox 41.0.

Firefox has been hanging (not responding) very frequently, at least every few minute. It's been happening on youtube or switching from tabs. I've tried just about everything, from re-naming the "places.sqlite" to "places.sqlite.old" and doing re-installs (both deleting folder and uninstalling completely). There's no error that pops up, its just hanging, and then it comes back to normal after about 5 seconds. And the cycle repeats. Any new help would be great. Thanks.

After updating both, Firefox hangs (not responding) every time running Flash. I tried refresh.-didn't help. Then uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox, still hangs. Settings in Flash already match suggested settings in troubleshooting articles. Was working perfectly until I updated Firefox this morning. Is there a way to roll back to previous version? Read other threads which suggest driver issues and/or Windows version of Flash, etc. But EVERYTHING was working until the Firefox update. What can I do?

Since the problem only seems to occur on the Firefox browser, I've decided to directly post a question on the matter within the Mozilla forum.

The situation is: I cannot access or completely load pages that contain embedded players from particular sites that are used for hosting videos. The sites I'm particularly talking about are goodanime.eu, animeplus.tv, and gooddrama.net. The reason I'm suspecting it's a player found on these sites is because other sites that also use Flash, such as YouTube, Vimeo, and Daliymotion do not crash the application (FF) and force me to terminate it manually via task manger.

It's been like this ever since the site (animeplus.tv) came back online. I don't know if it's relevant now, but for about 5 days or so, I couldn't access the site due to a malicious warning that had arisen causing Firefox to block me from the domain of animeplus.tv. However, I was able to access the partner sites goodanime.eu and gooddrama.net all the same, even though I'm 100% sure they run and link to the same type of players on their individual sites.

About a day or two ago, I was able to once again have access to animeplus.tv. So, I decided to catch up on one of the series I watch via the site, but found that I could not as each time I tried to load a page that linked to those players, the Firefox browser would stall (Not Responding)—at which point I'd then have to manually end via task manager.

Incidentally, I came to find that upon having the browser crash when trying to load these pages, a certain background process that's used by Firefox to run plug-ins (Plug-in container for Firefox) had started taking up a bit of CPU and memory. It was the only thing running that high when checking task manager. It normally isn't that high, and upon typing this message, I can report that it is at a minimum level.

Upon learning this, I decided to troubleshoot by restarting the browser in Safe Mode, and tried loading the page. It failed.

I even uninstalled and removed all relevant files, rebooted, and installed it again (clean) only to find that these sites continue to fail.

I honestly don't know what's going on with this site, and I would've contacted the site owner myself, but I've done so in the past and did not receive a response. So, I'm kind of wondering what it is I can do at this point.

Just to clear up:

Firefox only crashes on the sites mentioned above when trying to load pages with flash players they've embedded onto their site.

Even after running Firefox in safe mode, the pages refuse to load and Firefox turns unresponsive.

When Firefox is unresponsive and frozen, task manager reads that the Firefox container for plug-ins uses up more memory.

Installing it clean does not work.

The pages described above do work on other browsers however, such as Chrome and Edge, but for whatever reason won't load on Firefox.

The currently installed extensions I have enabled are: Adblock Plus, Classic Theme Restorer, Flag Fox, Flash Video Downloader (4k), Ghostery, NoScript, Search Preview, and Stumble Upon. Tweak Tube is currently disabled.

I, at some point, thought it was due to an outdated version of flash player, but had it checked via Mozilla's pluginchecker and found that I had been running an out of date version of Flash player. I updated everything, but the site still fails to load completely and ultimately requires me to close it prematurely.

Plugins that I have are: Microsoft Office 2013, OpenH264 Video Code by Cisco, Primetime content decryption module provided by Adobe Systems, Shockwave Flash, Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth Plugin, Google Update, Photo Gallery, Quicktime Plugin, and Yahoo Application state plugin.

I have not checked to see if the mentioned plugins needed updating.

At this point, I'm at a loss. And, yes, while I could just watch the videos on another browser, I'm having trouble understanding why Firefox is the only one that can't load anything. I don't run that many extensions... and I normally only have about 4 or 5 tabs open at a time. Even then, the only tabs playing such content are confined to the one animeplus.tv.

I have been in IT for about 30 years now and for many years now I have used firefox. I think it was earlier this year after a new version of firefox came out I have had constant problems on THREE computers. I use a windows 7 computer at work and up until a couple weeks ago I used a windows 8.1 computer at home. I recenly got a different computer and installed windows 10 at home. ALL three have the same problems constantly not responding lots of crashes.

the fact that it happens on three totally different computers with totally different components tells me it is not a hardware problem. the fact that three different OS'es are involved tell me its not the OS

the only clues/indications I get are that its a shockwave or flash problem.

are other people having this problem? the fact that it happens on a new windows 10 computer (fresh install not upgrade) tells me its not outdated flash/shockwave.

is there some serious flaw in Firefox or Adobe software ?

The (dinosaur) ISP Juno from California just unveiled a new startup page, StartJuno.com.

It doesn't look too different from the previous version of startup page.

It appears to load as usual, but for the time being pops up a box asking to take the viewer on a tour of the page's features.

Whether or not one goes through the tour, which is pretty mundane, afterward the cursor goes to 'wait'.

FF doesn't go into build-up-HUGE-amounts-of-memory mode, but just stops responding.

This appears to be FF-exclusive. No such problems IE or Chrome.

2 different computers are now crashing every few minutes after the latest update on FF. I tried some of your suggestions and then decided before I do anything drastic I would look on your FB page. You should read it. Hundreds of people are having the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS, so it is NOT on our end. I am now using Chrome until this is resolved. I have loved FF but this is unacceptable. People are angry. You have made no attempts to acknowledge this problem or say a patch or update is in the works. What is happening, no bull**it. I have to open task manager just to close FF every single time.

This just started today and I don't think Firefox updated recently. I have version 41.0 and I can use Zillow for about 10 minutes then I get "not responding" and I have to shut it down using end task. I tried safe mode but I have the same problem. I used Chrome and no problems with Zillow there. Any help is appreciated.

I have been having this problem since Monday after my computer was shut down two days in a row when I didn't have access to it. After I had started it back up, I went straight to YouTube. I clicked on a video and it started loading but then Firefox stops responding, and after about 30 seconds or so, it starts responding again. I just thought it did this because I had been gone for two days, so I decided to scroll down and look at the comments, where it did the same thing. I started to get frustrated, so I decided just to stay up where the video was and I tried to change the quality, where Firefox stopped responding and then started responding again. I then decided just to restart my computer, which didn't help at all. I then downloaded Chrome to see if it did the same thing when I was on YouTube, and it didn't. I tried looking up a problem on here, and found a guy with my exact problem, who figured out that he could fix it by just logging out and logging back it, which I tried, but it didn't work for me. I also cleared my cache and my YouTube watch and search history, which temporarily helped, but then it went back to not responding then responding again. My current version of Firefox is 40.1 if that helps any.

Starting a few days ago I've been having some serious issues with Firefox. It crashes almost constantly when I try to go on the internet. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the browser. Didn't work. When I go to close the page there is no option to send a report, it just asks me if I want to close the page or wait for it to respond. Then when I bring back Firefox it gives me the "Well this is embarrassing" message.

Last week I could open theblaze.com without a problem, and this week it hangs with a message "(not responding)." I have done a refresh on release 41.0. I have reinstalled the browser, but to no avail. Why is this suddenly happening?

When I click om Mozilla Firefox to get into Internet and try to look up anything I get "not responding" this happens always. Can not do anything such as check emails, face book, browse etc. When it does work for a minute or so I get the following message Adobe Flash has crashed submit a crash report. I have ran malware and virus scans and no threats etc come up. I have also uninstall both adobe flash and firefox several times. It also happens in safe mode as well. Very frustrating!!!!

See above. I went to my control panel & tried to uninstall Firefox and that just sits there and nothing happens. I cannot use the current version of Firefox as noted above. When I loaded the update first, it says it loaded and then when I tried to use Firefox, it said something about a plug-in canister not working. That's when I restored my computer to a couple of weeks back which got rid of the update and gave me the previous version of Firefox. That does not come up either now. How can I get rid of it and reinstall Firefox from scratch?

I am having trouble with firefox crashing a lot when i play on facebook i am getting so mad that i can not play any of my game because it keep crashing on me fix the issue. this happens a lot when i play Farmville 2 and a couple of other games
