Something is changing my default PDF viewer to Libra open office where I have it always on fireFox pdf viewer.

If I set it one time. The wps gets to open up in Task mgr and always is there to take over PDF's.

WHY and how can some security setting let this happen. ?

Going to program defaults-- does not even show FoxIT Reader but shows the WPS Libre office. and its defaults are greyed out that can't be changed so it doing this on its own also. WPS libre office defaults are greyed out and can't be changed. So their setting override ??? OMG>

Hello,

I am currently running FF 59.0.1. The reason that I am still at this level is that the last update to to this level WIPED ALL my open windows and tabs forcing me to loose MANY hours of work. Being so burned I turned off FF automatic updates.

Now being hit with the loss of all of my add-ons due to the latest catastrophe it looks like I will have to upgrade to make them work once again. Neither the "xpinstall.signatures.required" hack or the now completed "study" did anything to fix the add-on issue.

So now I need a way to backup my open windows and tabs before updating FF. Obviously whatever method is used MUST be restorable to the current version in the case that it is needed.

Thanks, Steve

Updates – Last updated 14:35 PST May 14, 2019. We expect this to be our final update.

  • If you are running Firefox versions 61 – 65 and 1) did not receive the deployed fix and 2) do not want to update to the current version (which includes the permanent fix): Install This Extension to resolve the expired security certificate issue and re-enable extensions and themes.
  • If you are running Firefox versions 57 – 60: Install This Extension to resolve the expired security certificate issue and re-enable extensions and themes.
  • If you are running Firefox versions 47 – 56: install This Extension to resolve the expired security certificate issue and re-enable extensions and themes.

Updates – Last Updated: 17:04 EDT May 9, 2019

A less technical blog post about the outage is also available. If you enabled telemetry to get the initial fix, we’re deleting all data collected since May 4. (May 9, 17:04 EDT)

Mozilla CTO Eric Rescorla posted a blog on the technical details of what went wrong last weekend.

Updates – Last Updated: 19:28 EDT May 8 2019

We’ve released Firefox 66.0.5 for Desktop and Android, and Firefox ESR 60.6.3, which include the permanent fix for re-enabling add-ons that were disabled starting on May 3rd. The initial, temporary fix that was deployed May 4th through the Studies system is replaced by these updates, and we recommend updating as soon as possible. Users who enabled Studies to receive the temporary fix, and have updated to the permanent fix, can now disable Studies if they desire.

For users who cannot update to the latest version of Firefox or Firefox ESR, we plan to distribute an update that automatically applies the fix to versions 52 through 60. This fix will also be available as a user-installable extension. For anyone still experiencing issues in versions 61 through 65, we plan to distribute a fix through a user-installable extension. These extensions will not require users to enable Studies, and we’ll provide an update when they are available.

"Updates – Last Updated: 11:51 EDT May 8 2019 (From Mozilla Blog)

Firefox 66.0.5 has been released, and we recommend that people update to that version if they continue to experience problems with extensions being disabled. You’ll get an update notification within 24 hours, or you can initiate an update manually.
An update to ESR 60.6.3 is also available as of May 8th. We’re continuing to work on a fix for older versions of Firefox, and will update this post and on social media as we have more information."

A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061).

There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week. More information about the remaining issues can be found by clicking on the links to the release notes above. (May 5, 16:25 EDT)

"Last Updated: 00:54 EDT May 5 2019

Updates:

Some users are reporting that they do not have the “hotfix-update-xpi-signing-intermediate-bug-1548973” study active in “about:studies”.

Rather than using work-arounds, which can lead to issues later on, we strongly recommend that you continue to wait. If it’s possible for you to receive the hotfix, you should get it by 6am EDT, 24 hours after it was first released.

For everyone else, we are working to ship a more permanent solution. (May 5, 00:54 EDT)

There are a number of work-arounds being discussed in the community. These are not recommended as they may conflict with fixes we are deploying. We’ll let you know when further updates are available that we recommend, and appreciate your patience. (May 4, 15:01 EDT)"

Hello,

What is the story with Firefox print rendering searchable PDFs? Apparently this has to do with how the web pages are print rendered.

Chrome and I think IE? are now print rendering all web pages as graphics which kills the ability to create text searchable PDF files using various PDF printers like Bullzip.

So has or will Firefox going to be joining this same path anytime soon?

Thanks, Steve

This may sound like word games, but I'm not trying to be funny, merely specific.

So I'm on a network with limited bandwidth. Therefore it's critical for me to understand what settings I can configure (if any) that will prevent the DOWNLOAD of video and/or large images from web sites.

For example, your basic site nowadays probably uses HTML5 and may use that vs. the old-style Flash plug-ins to embed video. And yep classic HTML links with references to image files for the images.

Back in the day you could configure a browser to ignore these references and then the browser would not even attempt to fetch the referenced image or video files. I've recently started using Firefox again, and I'm trying to learn how Firefox handles this in the HTML5 era (or rather what dumb users like me are supposed to do nowadays).

I'm noticing most of the help literature is regarding disabling settings of the auto-PLAY feature. However, due to my ignorance of modern Firefox, perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but most of it seems to involve disabling plug-ins that activate after the file is downloaded, not preventing the actual download. Similar to if I'm using Microsoft Word to view a DOCX file from a web site, uninstalling Word doesn't prevent the DOCX file from downloading. What I don't want to do is cheerfully disable the video playing while my browser still happily downloads the video in the background... because my main goal is not to avoid the annoyance of autoplay, but my goal is to conserve bandwidth on my connection.

FYI I'm using the latest version of Firefox Quantum on Manjaro Linux.

Thanks for advice anyone can provide in helping bring me into the "now" of modern Firefox, or who can point me to any further help articles or instructions to help educate me about this. If I'm over-reading and disabling auto-PLAY also inherently disables the downloading of the associated media, super, but that distinction is not obvious in any of the documentation I've seen so far.

Thanks!!

Long time user of Firefox (and Thunderbird) - in last few days started getting the yellow bar warning about a web page slowing down your browser with the options to wait or... some pages I can click on wait and it will continue soon after, other times Firefox freezes and can only be stopped through task manager.

This happens on sites such as Google Maps, my financial institutions websites, etc. I've tried safe mode, refresh, disable all extensions, disable hardware acceleration, etc - nothing works..

I'm on an Spectre X360 laptop with 16 GB Ram, 512GB SSD drive, UHD display. Running Avast anti-virus. On 5Ghz wireless to 150Mpbs internet connection.

I installed Chrome to compare, not a single problem with speed and no yellow bar messages.

In past, I've had no problems with speed - even with multiple tabs open.

What happened? This just started out of the blue, at first I thought it was our ISP until I tried Chrome.

As I tried to enter my plugins below, I opened the add-ons manager and when I went back to the tab to enter them got the same yellow bar A web page... error! ON THIS PAGE!

Yesterday, for some reason, Firefox would not open. At all. I downloaded and installed the latest version and since then I cannot open google.com or google.nl. I keep getting this error: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

I have tried the instructions with regards to renewing certificates for my AV, but that did not yield a lasting solution. After I rebooted, FF would open google.nl but some 20 or 30 minutes later, FF would give the same error again....

I am drowning in an overload of useless information on the FF forums. I am at my wits end and about to give up on FF altogether and switch to Chrome or even IE (yeah, I'm THAT desperate atm) . And on top of all this, just as I was typing this text and trying to copy-paste the extra info (see down below), FF decided to close this particular tab... FML.. SMH

I used to love FF but now my feelings are about to make a 180 degree turn towards the negative... Can someone please help me without linking me to 16 different pages with confusing and useless info? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I use Firefox v590.0.2 (64 bits) with Windows 10.

I use Firefox at my work, only for browsing our intranet. I'm a web developer so I load many pages on our intranet. Since a few weeks, I noticed that the pages are not always loaded correctly: the page starts to be loaded, and then it stops and it's loading forever (with the "Waiting for XXX" message at the bottom left). If I refresh the page it will eventually load as expected.

I tried to install a new Firefox on *another* computer, and I use it to browse the same website. And the same behavior appears: it works very fast and well for some pages, and then randomly stops working for some random pages.

On my main computer I tried to create new profiles, delete everything, without success.

I also tried to deactivate the hardware acceleration on both Firefox, without success.

When I check the Network tab from the web developer bar, I can see that some CSS files (it's not always the same, and it can be 1 or several CSS files) are not loaded (see the attachment) and appears with a grey dot, just like if the browser was trying to load them but it cannot, blocking the page. (I've also noticed it could impact other resources, like, at least images)

Before v59 I've never seen this behavior.

Note :

 - our intranet is on Sharepoint, with NTLM auth
 - at home I use Firefox on my personal computer and it works normally (but I don't browser the work intranet)
 - at work, because it's on the intranet, the network doesn't go thru a proxy
 - I'm now using Chrome because of this issue with Firefox, and the problem doesn't occur in Chrome

Thanks for any help.
