I have a laptop that I upgraded: ubuntu8.10 -> ubuntu9.0.4 java stopped working in yahoo bridge. (firefox = 3.0.19) I followed Sun's instructions putting the link to the correct .so file to java6u20 plugin but that did not help. I tried clearing cache. still nothing. I have another PC with firefox3.0.19 and there is no java plugin but there are two flash plugins (1 free, the other non-free) it is at ubuntu8.10 and java is working just fine in that firefox. I have followed all of firefox's steps for enabling java in the preferences dropdown. I can provide more details if you need them.

Installation of JRE has been verified. Sites that require JRE say it is not installed but all site tests confirm the installation. A technician in chat says it is installed properly as well but needs to be added to my profile. It was working properly a few days ago but some update changed a setting. I have also attempted to use Chromium as well with the same results. I know this is related to my installation but cannot find a consolidated set of instructions to complete the installation. I am a new linux user and am still learning. Assistance would be great.

I've just installed Xubuntu 10.04 and it comes with Firefox 3.6. I managed to import all of my bookmarks perfectly but when I tried to re-arrange them manually by click-n-dragging them in the sidebar the only thing that happens is that Firefox opens the bookmark I've just clicked on. Same thing happens with the bookmarks library. Same also happens with the bookmark folders.

Not entirely sure about this but could it have something to do with the amount of bookmarks? The HTML file I imported is roughly 25 megabytes.

I have a 320K bookmarks file. Earlier versions of Firefox sucked this way but 3.5.9 raises the suck to 11. It loses the contents of bookmark folders within a few hours of starting, then everything else within a day. NOW 3.5.9 WILL FAIL TO WRITE A BACKUP FILE. It says it will, doesn't report an error, and leaves you WITH NOTHING. And now, it refuses to load the backup files "unable to process...". And I think, but I'm not sure, after I forced it to write a "bookmarks.html" file, it deleted it.

These errors have been around for years. But now THEY ARE GETTING WORSE. WTF? Is anyone listening? Is there even a bug opened for this or is this less important than reordering tabs?

What's up with this?

Downloaded firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 to my home directory. from root termial I entered the following lines: mv firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 /usr/lib/ cd /usr/lib/ tar -jxvf firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 ln -s /usr/lib/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Created a symlink as follows: rm -rf /usr/firefox/plugins; ln -s /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins /usr/lib/firefox/plugins

Created a launcher on debian desktop, but am uncertain about the proper command to use, I tried using "firefox" but nothing happened.

If I navagate to my file structure " / usr bin " I find firefox, but can't open or run it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. David.

Under Mac OS X 1.05: if Firefox is already running and I type (in a Terminal): /Applications/Firefox.App/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin http://google.com

a pop-up comes out and complains that "Firefox is already running". The behavior under Linux is load the requested URL in a new tab|window. I have also tried *documented* options such as "-new-tab" and "-remote", but I get the same error. This only happens when Firefox is already running.

Is there a way to load a new URL from the command line if Firefox is already running, under Mac OS X? I have tried Mac's open(1), but it does not get along well with Tab Mix Plus, so it is useless for me.

I think that this difference in the behavior between Linux and Mac's version is very very very annoying for developers and users!
