I updated Firefox on Linux Mint 18.1 to latest version this morning. (I can't tell you what latest Firefox version number is, because:) Firefox opens and after about 45 seconds the computer freezes completely, with me doing nothing. If I actually try to log in to Firefox or do anything else, the freeze takes about 5 seconds. I have to do a hard reboot. I've never had this trouble before, and other browsers (Chromium, Opera) work normally. Any suggestions?

I am on the latest snapshot of the openSUSE Tumbleweed rolling distro (20190209), with Firefox 64. The problem started several snapshots ago (after mid-January).
The problem occurs in profiles with and without extensions.
I tried the troubleshooting steps at:

Any troubleshooting ideas will be appreciated. I'm now using another browser, but would prefer to return to Firefox.

For the last week Task Manager is showing Firefox using lots of CPU, causing fans to come on in laptop, at the same time 'FLOW' is showing about the same high usage. I never installed Flow. When I 'end task' on Flow Firefox reverts to normal. But Flow reappears on it's own. If I remove Conexant Flow, it comes back again. Can anyone help? It also worries me why Flow should be using so much CPU, when (apparently) it is only a driver?

When I have a video playing in the background (for example a Twitch stream) and use Firefox in a way that causes 100% CPU usage (for example navigating a Google Maps 360° view or scrolling a complex website excessively) I get interruptions and even repetitions of short bits of the playing sound. This issue started after updating to Firefox Quantum and is quite annoying. Is this a known issue? Any potential workarounds? I'm currently using 58.0.2 (64 bit) on Windows 10 16299.

The main reason I still use Chrome is to keep my laptop fan from turning on when I watch YouTube videos. This then leads me to use Chrome for other reasons as well. I would prefer to use Firefox, but I don't like it when my fan turns on. My Firefox is up to date according to me preferences page.
I have tried unchecking "Use hardware acceleration when possible" and restarting Firefox, but the fan still comes on.
What's the solution?

Hi,
My first time here, just recently switched from Chrome to Firefox, but seems like it's a bit problematic. Version 70.0 worked fine, but ever since 70.0.1, Firefox starts crashing (randomly). 99% of the time there is no error message, the browser just crashes(closes) and that's it, no crash report, no error, the only thing I can do is to restore previous session. Usually, after crashing, it will crash again 2-3 times upon opening the browser, until it will finally work...for a while. Rarely there have been errors, saying the same thing - memory could not be read (attached in the post). Does not happen with any other browsers. All my drivers and software are up to date, memory is OK, (did windows memory diag and memtest86), hardware is okay, tried disabling plugins and hardware acceleration, still nothing. All that ever since 70.0.1, before that it worked fine. Is it just me or anyone else having that problem? If any additional info is needed, let me know.
Hello, Firefox keeps crashing nearly constantly in the last Days

One oddity in the crash report; "CPU Info-warning: family 20 model 2 stepping 0 ". The crash-problem started a few weeks back, before it worked good for years. No changes in the hardware or software are done on my behalf and everything is kept automatically up-to-date. Any advice or direcions to a solution are really appreciated. I have been using Firefox for more than 10 years now. it is the best browser out there. However, starting from last year I have been noticing that my computer's fan is almost always working which takes too much of my battery and I figured that Firefox is the main issue (I did so many research and tests %100 sure). Later, I herd about the new Firefox quantum, and decided to wait and not switch to another browser. the new one was released and I installed it the very first day. I was super happy that it's much faster and use less memory than other browsers (that's right). However, lately (about a month) I noticed the same the fan is always working again, so I check the task manager and found my dear Firefox quantum acting up again even though 3 taps are opened.
I really need help with this issue to stay using Firefox, I am tired of this issue and really considering switching to another browser because this is just not good at all. and I could not find any way to fix it. please see the attached pic it's just unbelievable.

Hello all! For the past few weeks, Firefox seems to be a large CPU hog. It uses around 30-50% of the CPU for seemingly no reason. I have ADBlock off (As you can see) There are only two tabs open (I am running Opera as well) I've cleared the cache, I've refreshed the download of Firefox as well. I'm trying to troubleshoot some issues on my late 2013 MacBook Pro. Most notably, the performance seems to be absolutely awful with embedded HTML5 videos. For example:
https://twitter.com/CNET/status/897900931861413888
Letting this video play almost immediately pegs my CPU to the point that it actually starts skipping. The same video under Safari and Chrome plays fine and barely taps the CPU at all.
I've tried every version over 54, and this issue is being replicated with a brand new profile and zero extensions installed. It does it even on the latest nightly build as of today (8/19/17).
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I use Firefox on Windows and Firefox tries to use too much of my system's RAM. I know this is for performance reasons BUT there is very little performance gain. This behavior is fine for users who only run Firefox and little else. BUT I use other memory intensive apps not only Firefox so Firefox using up lots of my RAM is very bad for my use case.
On a system with lots of RAM when I use gmail and Facebook on Firefox the firefox processes can bloat to more than 2.5GB! And it actually seems to start getting slower at that point.
But if I run Firefox in a Windows Virtual Machine with only 1.5GB RAM and start using gmail and Facebook a lot the largest firefox process only gets to a max of 750MB. So that is proof that Firefox can actually work with less RAM without crashing.
How can I get Firefox to behave as if the system has less RAM (e.g. just set a max RAM limit) without to resorting to running it in a VM? I have tried stuff like Process Governor but Firefox tends to crash when it hits the limit instead of running the GC. In contrast on a virtual machine with less RAM Firefox doesn't seem to crash and just uses less RAM.
Is there also a way to get Firefox to automatically do what the about:memory "Minimize memory usage" button does, when it starts to go past a memory usage threshold?

What has happened with Mozilla? A month ago, there were no problems when watching stream video 1080p 60fps. But now it is impossible to do it: constant and long freezes. I have noticed that CPU load is almost 100% when watching stream. I have recorded the system parameters for 10 minutes for the same stream via Mozilla and Edge and the difference is great (see the attached files). I do not know what parameters were a month ago for Mozilla but definitely I never noticed any problems. Hope this info will be helpful to fix the problem.

This has been happening for a couple of months now. Firefox has been crashing ever so often, and because it usually happens when flash content is being run; i.e., a video or a web game. Another reason that leads me to believe this is Flash is that before I had this problem, flash would eat up my CPU, and I would be peaking at 100%! Another problem that I am having right now: I can't have two Flash things actively running at the same time, or else Flash will crash, for example, a video and a game. Ads don't seem to crash Flash as often, but it will sometimes happen, especially if there is a lot of moving content. Anyways, you can look at some crash logs to try and figure out what is happening with my issues.

When using Firefox and loading multiple tabs, it can be very slow, and even freeze occasionally. Considering the resources I have available, why is this? Are there configurations I can change to allow Firefox to make full use of my processor, RAM and broadband speed?
Also, when I download files etc. from a site, I'm limited to only 4 at a time, and they rarely download faster than 1Mbps, usually only around 200Kbps. Is there a way to increase the number allowed, and to increase the top speed per download?
Thanks.
