I find the autocomplete experience just awful. I type the first few letters of a site I've visited for the past few days and it's only the 5th match down, requiring me to arrow down to it or use my mouse (tsk tsk). Instead, sites I used to visit a lot appear near the top, or search suggestions. I read this list of autocomplete best-practices and thought you guys might find it inspiring: http://jeremymikkola.com/posts/2019_03_19_ru

Every time I start Firefox with a new profile, despite trying in several ways to make this not happen, Firefox automatically makes a series of requests to URL's and will retry them repeatedly when those requests fail.

``` GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 POST https://shavar.services.mozilla.com/downloads?client=Firefox&appver=60.2&pver=2.2 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 GET https://search.services.mozilla.com/1/firefox/60.2.2/default/en-US/AU/default/default/nov17-1 POST https://shavar.services.mozilla.com/downloads?client=Firefox&appver=60.2&pver=2.2 ... (and so on) ```
I am trying to make this not happen. I'm ideally looking for a setup where Firefox will make no requests at all without me explicitly telling it to but just eliminating the two requests above would be a great start!
Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Uncheck "Provide search suggestions" in `about:preferences#search`
2. I've followed these instructions --- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-making-automatic-connections
2. Here are a combination of select settings from my `user.js` preferences file that I put in to place before opening Firefox in my attempts to stop this. Some of these may or may not be relevant but I'm including them so you have some idea what I've tried: ``` user_pref("app.update.enabled", false); user_pref("browser.tabs.crashReporting.sendReport", false); user_pref("browser.crashReports.unsubmittedCheck.enabled", false) user_pref("browser.search.update", false); user_pref("browser.search.suggest.enabled", false); user_pref("extensions.systemAddon.update.enabled", false); user_pref("extensions.update.enabled", false); user_pref("browser.safebrowsing.downloads.remote.enabled", false); user_pref('browser.search.geoSpecificDefaults.url', ); user_pref('media.gmp-manager.url', ); user_pref('browser.safebrowsing.provider.mozilla.updateURL', ); user_pref('browser.safebrowsing.provider.mozilla.gethashURL', ) user_pref('browser.search.cohort', ); user_pref("services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.urlbar.suggest.searches", false); ``` Any ideas?
New three-dot button that was added to the addressbar can be tabbed to and has slowed down my productivity.
My usual hotkey combo to search is <ctrl+t> <tab> <type search string> <enter>. I understand I can replace <tab> with <ctrl+e> to access the searchbar, or that I can <tab> twice - I'm just wondering if there's a way to go back to how it was a few days ago, for muscle-memory-sake?
Addressbar buttons are not customizable via the toolbar customize mode.
Browser: FF(dev)67.0b3 (64-bit) \n Attachment (which doesn't seem to want to upload, here): https://i.imgur.com/IPYJvs9.png \n Edit: No idea why newline is being removed between browser and attachment.
Keyboard shortcut to change search engine broken? (Ctrl Up/Down)
Some months ago I tried using Firefox Quantum and, even though I found the search bar to be horrible, I remember it was still possible to change the search engine on it using Ctrl+Up/Down, and it made the search bar more tolerable.
Now I decided to give Firefox Quantum another go to see if I could stomach losing so many features that I have on Firefox 56, but it seems that the search bar's Ctrl+Up/Down shortcut is gone, and now the search bar not only is horrible, but useless.
Is there any way of re-enabling this shortcut? I'm using Firefox Developer Edition 67.0b3 (64-bit).
Some clarification:
- I know I can use Ctrl+K to access the search bar and use the arrows to select a search engine, but when I type a search and press Enter, Firefox still uses the default search engine instead of the one highlighted using the arrows.
- I know I can use Ctrl+L to access the address bar and use the arrows to select a search engine, but that is not as nearly as straight-forward as using the search bar, as usually I have to scroll through a lot of suggestions from the address bar to finally get to the search engines. Also, this doens't allow me to see search suggestions from the search engine I choose.
- I know I can create keywords such as "g" for Google, or "d" for DuckDuckGo and use them to search, but I use dozens of search engines and this would not be a reasonable solution.
- Right now the search bar is useless even if I use the mouse: when I click on another search engine, instead of just changing the search provider and allowing me to type the search terms, it opens the search provider's website like it was a shortcut—if I wanted shortcuts I would create and put them on the bookmark toolbar!
Firefox used to have a simple and truly awesome search bar, which I still use on Firefox 56. When Internet Explorer was still the main browser, the feature that most stood out for me on Firefox, besides the tabbed browsing and the extensions, was the flexibility and efficiency of its search bar. Hell, I remember that some of my friends only changed to Firefox because I showed them the search engines that I had submitted to Mycroft Project! What happened to you Firefox? How did you get to this point?
When looking at stories on the BBC news site; any quotes from Twitter do not display correctly - they just display as the word "twitter" (which is a link).
If I restart in Safe Mode, the Twitter citations display correctly (a box with the Twitter post in it).
If I restart in normal mode, and then manually disable all addons (to try and pin down which one is affecting it), they still display incorrectly. Only Safe Mode works.
Why does safe mode and disabled addons behave differently? And how do I find out which addon is causing a problem if disabling them doesn't have any effect?
Thanks.
When I access a web site that requires client certificate - and I have several different ones, including those on hardware tokens - the prompt/popup is malformed. All the certificates are listed HORIZONTALLY, making it impossible to scroll through them and select the correct one. I can walk through the available ones, highlighting them via Up- and Down-arrows, but that does not change the real selection, and the displayed certificate remains to be the first one.
Automatic certificate selection does not work for me, because the site in question requires Email certificate instead of Authentication certificate.
Up until 3 days ago I was able to delete individual cookies. I would click on the remove selected cookies in the manage cookies pop up window. Next I would click on save changes button. I would click on remove button in the drop down removing cookies window. Then the drop down window and the manage cookies pop up window would both close and my selected cookies would be deleted.
Now everything is the same until I get to the drop down removing cookies window. I click on the remove button and the drop down removing cookies window closes, but the pop up manage cookies stays open and the cookies I selected to delete are not deleted.
I don't know if it's a bug or what. I have restarted firefox - still doesn't work. I have restarted my Mac - it still doesn't work.
Hopefully someone can help me.
I couldn't tell you when it actually started, but I noticed it about 2 weeks ago. It's impossible to predict e.g. I open 4 identical tabs to my youtube subs page and maybe one loads. The pages work 100% of the time in Chrome, but I'd really like to just fix what's wrong in Firefox. See attached for how the tabs look and how a broken youtube subs page will look. I am updated to the latest version. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I found this problem: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1060134 . However, the link is broken.
Is there a way to find the number of tabs I have open with the latest edition of Firefox? Per window and overall would both be interesting numbers for me because I have windows by category, sort of.
Mozilla? Major FAIL! The one thing that worked for me was the ability to customize a userchrome.css so that I could get the multirow toolbar to work through a customized "userchrome.css" file. CONGRATS (spoken with sarcasm) on releasing a new version of Firefox that completely ignores the userchrome.css file.
My current userchrome.css files looks like this:
/* Multi-Row Bookmarks Toolbar */
  1. PersonalToolbar {
/* Provide room for up to 4 rows at 26px */ max-height: 115px !important; }
  1. PlacesToolbarItems > box {
display: inline-block !important; }
  1. PersonalToolbar #PlacesToolbarItems {
/* Override hiding */ overflow-x: visible !important; overflow-y: visible !important; /* Add a little cushion */ padding-bottom: 1px; }
  1. PersonalToolbar #PlacesToolbarItems .bookmark-item {
/* Reduce padding on individual bookmarks to fit rows closer together */ padding-top: 1px !important; padding-bottom: 1px !important; } .tabbrowser-tab::before, .tabbrowser-tab::after{
 display: none !important;
} toolbarbutton.bookmark-item {
font-size:13px !important;
}
It no longer works as Firefox 67 completely ignores the file. If anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'll be dumping Firefox (after being a user for some 15+ years and switching to another web browser. Mozilla keeps removing vital functions of Firefox to make it less user friendly then it was before.
