I prefer to use S/MIME to digitally sign my email messages. Prior to Thunderbird 102.3.1, using S/MIME to digitally sign my messages was the default.

Now, for every single email I send, when I click "Send" I get the dialog box "OpenPGP Alert - Cannot digitally sign this message, because you haven’t yet configured end-to-end encryption for <email address>". I have to then select "S/MIME" from the encryption/signature menu.

It's a pain to have to remember to do this for every email I send.

I checked my account settings. "Do not use OpenPGP for this identity" is checked. The correct S/MIME certificate is selected.

How do I set the default signature method to be S/MIME instead of OpenPGP in this new version of Thunderbird?

I'm running Thunderbird 102.3.1 on Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. The Enigmail plugin is disabled. I have an OpenPGP key that I created 20 years ago on my system, and Thunderbird recognizes its presence, but I do not use it.

Hello. My Windows 10 suddenly crashed, so I reinstalled on a new hard drive, with the latest version of Firefox. My old Firefox, was completely up to date but still used the Key3.db file for my saved logins, and it will not work with the newest version. I tried creating a new profile and pasting the logins.json and key3.db files, as suggested by an old Firefox KB article, but that doesn't work any more. Is there any way for me to get the saved logins out of the older JSON file with the Key3 file? I desperately need help with this, and would appreciate any that someone could give.

Regards, Brian Mercer.

I have 2-Step verification on Gmail. When I go to log in I get this: Insert your security Key into the USB. I cancel out of it and get this: Your phone can’t locate your device. Move your phone closer to the device where you’re signing in, and then try again. I "Try another way" and I try to get a "one-time security code" and it forwards me to a website where the cycle begins again. If I try "Auto-recovery" it sends me to google. I can access Gmail on the same machine via Chrome, but would rather not. I can also get it on Firefox on my phone.

I did recently turn on two-step and it asked if I wanted a key, and I thought it might mean Google Authentication, I think it meant a USB key.

Any thoughts? I rather not give up Firefox.

I have installed latest version of Thunderbird and all works as it should but 2 things seem wrong and not sure if bug, incorrect setting or just not allowed:

1 When I send encrypted email to myself it is automatically unencrypted and readable. I would prefer that any encrypted email I receive forces me to enter my private password every time. Can I configure this? 2 I would like to set Tbird to automatically encrypt all emails to an address I have the public key for. however It looks as if I can only set 'encrypt all' or 'don't encrypt' which means I need to manually select for each email or have to set as 'encrypt all' and then get message for almost all recipients that they don't have public key etc.

Advice appreciated.

I get dozens of emails stating, "It looks like you're using plain-text email" or something to that effect. I see this message when I merely highlight the email in the list but without opening the email by clicking on the list entry. "Allow remote content" is set to off.

How do they know?

Thanks.

Hello everyone !

I've used Thunderbird for a few months by now, and all worked well. However, approximately a week ago, Bitdefender suddenly started to prevent Thunderbird from starting, warning me that it had detected a vulnerability exploit in thunderbird.exe.

I tried to de-install and re-install Thunderbird, on my data (D:/) disk and on my system (C:/) disk, but it didn't help... Is it possible that the vulnerability is in a config file that isn't deleted when uninstalling Thunderbird?

Thank you in advance for your help!

On my laptop, I run FDE as my daily driver, with the release version to handle my webmail. I also use portable firefox (from portableapps.com) as a browser to use while at work, from a thumb drive. While using that portable verison, I usually just go to google image search, and a work site that would definitely be secure.

My question: I don't like to update the installation on my thumb drive very often, and occasionally work computers are very slow anyways. So if I were to update it no more often than once a month, which version of firefox would be most secure: Release, Beta, or Nightly?

If doing this is just dumb, then which version gets updated less often--it would be Release, correct?

I received the following from my e-mail provider, and as a total dumbo about this, want to ask if I need to do anything about this in Thunderbird (Linux). As far as I can see, my e-mail account in Thunderbird is set to POP3, encrypted using SSL/TLs, normal password - can anyone tell me if this is OK - Thanks.

Quote: "We are contacting you because one or more of your devices or programs uses the TLS 1.0 and/or TLS 1.1 encryption protocols to connect to our mail.com email servers, or is using an unencrypted connection. This involves either access via SMTP (sending emails) or retrieval via POP3/IMAP (receiving emails).

Unfortunately, the TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols are outdated and no longer meet current security standards. To protect your email communications, soon we will no longer allow access to our mail.com servers with these outdated protocols. Unencrypted access will also no longer be possible.

After the protocols have been deactivated, the transfer of emails between your affected device or program and our mail.com servers will no longer work; i.e. no emails will be transmitted to or from your mail.com email account using TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1. Furthermore, unencrypted SMTP/IMAP/POP3 connections will no longer function. In other words, as of Oct. 5, 2022, it will only be possible to connect if TLS 1.2 or TLS 1.3 encryption is in place." Taking a look at the screenshot attached below you will see the librewolf browser which is a fork of firefox, blocks system font detection by default. How does librewolf do that? I hope by reading your reply i will be able to achive the same outcome with firefox. I'm also interested on how to block system local time readout/detection with firefox as i have so far not found a solution to this issue. As a privacy focused person i do not see any reason why any website would be interested in the timezone of my operatingsystem. This information is most likely not even necessary for functionality. From my knownledge the android browser named bromite (source: https://www.bromite.org/) does block timezone detection by default, since firefox is a privacy browser i fail to understand why this feature is not included to the settings tab.

PS: I'm not interested to making any suggestions anywhere, i want to modify firefox to block both system font and system timezone detection, any help is welcome...

Running v104.0.2. (UK) Whenever I have an 'email box', I get an autofill email address appearing I wish to delete. When I highlight the address, and hit 'delete' it doesn't work. On searching a method, I get the suggestion to go into settings and drill down in the 'Forms & Autofill' section in 'privacy' settings, but my FireFox has no such section.

I then tried to 'activate' the section by going into 'about:config' and changing 'extensions.formautofill.available' from, 'detect', to 'on', it made no difference, I still have no 'Forms & Autofill' section in settings.

How can something so simple be so complicated?

How do I delete an autofill email address?

Obviously Firefox/Mozilla makes ~80% of their incomse $ by shipping the browser with google as default search engine, which is a privacy nightmare but who cares, it's for the money... So my best bet would be that's also the reason the default mailto suggested by firefox is google, is that correct? Does that mean something of google ins injected into Firefox? Look i have no idea to be honest, i do hate google and now im woondering where is the gmail logo comming from, is it stored somewhere inside of firefox? Is it just the logo or might there be more google crap injected to firefox behind the scenes?

I originally installed Thunderbird about 2 years ago via the package installer on my Linux desktop. Currently running the 68.10 version which has never updated nor is there a function to update the program. I've read through the FAQ's and nothing was helpful. This all came to my attention when I received the following email from my email provider at mail.com a few days ago.

"Deactivation of TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and unencrypted access We are contacting you because one or more of your devices or programs uses the TLS 1.0 and/or TLS 1.1 encryption protocols to connect to our mail.com email servers, or is using an unencrypted connection. To protect your email communications, soon we will no longer allow access to our mail.com servers with these outdated protocols. Unencrypted access will also no longer be possible."

They indicated that mail service will stop to my Thnderbird account in a couple weeks if the problem has not been corrected.

Thank you for any suggestions about correcting the issue.
