When I open a new website, it just opens in the same tab. it used to add a tab,not just write over the last one. I don't think I changed any settings, but I want to retain a tab and have it still stay there when I open another website.

Firefox normally follows the site's lead on this. If the link specifies that it should be opened in a new window, Firefox will divert it to a new tab. But if the link doesn't specify a target, it opens in the same tab.

To change this, you can use an extension like Tab Mix Plus, which provides very detailed control over how links and bookmarks open. You can read more about it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/

If the change is only in Google search results, you might have cleared the cookie which stores your Google preferences. To reset Google results to open in a new window (which will be diverted to a new tab), see this Google help page: Open results in a new window - Search Help.

Does that help?

I managed to get two tabs to stay on the top and have a screenshot of them. Usually, I will have tabs all the way across to all the websites I have gone to until I close them out. I don't know if this explains it better or not. Thanks.

Here are the tab options I have, but it doesn't seem to make any difference how they are set.

Thanks for the screen shots.

Is the problem that Firefox usually opens pages in separate new windows instead of opening them as new tabs in that same window? In that case, you would be able to see from clicking the Firefox icon on the Windows task bar that there are many separate Firefox windows.

Also, why did you turn off the usual warning that appears when you are closing multiple tabs? This is so when you click the red X button to close a window, you don't close more tabs than you meant to close.

Do you mean that you want to keep the tabs from the current session and automatically have them open the next time you start Firefox?
