Search bar changes address bar's default search setting
In the past, I have usually kept my Search Bar on IMDb, because I use that a lot, but I do Google searches even more commonly, so I would simply type the Google search terms in the address bar and hit <Enter>, which always worked fine. It was like have two search bars at once, which was totally awesome. Now however, having just "updated" Firefox about an hour ago, it appears that the Address Bar's search selection is now tied to the Search Bar's selection. When I perform a search with the Address Bar, the resultant search invariably goes to whatever the choice is in the Search Bar. I have tried going into about:config and "reset" the browser.default.enginename setting, but it changes instantly as I change the Search Bar's setting. Please separate the Address Bar and the Search Bar back to the way they were before. This is extremely annoying.
Additional Information:
I have just rolled my computer back to where I'm back with Firefox 22.0 and the behavior immediately corrected itself, which only confirms that this is an issue with updating to ver 23.0, so I guess I'm stuck on 22.0 for the time being. I also see in the "What's New" notes for ver 23.0 that "Users can now switch to a new search provider across the entire browser". It would be nice if the change being applied to "the entire browser" was optional.

hello, consolidating the search options in the search-bar, address-bar and the default homepage was a deliberate change by developers. you can use the keyword search extension by mike kaply to work around that though...

Can I somehow revert this change through about:config?
no, the setting that controlled the different search engine for the address-bar in about:config was removed and now has no effect any longer. it is necessary to switch to the extension to get back the old behaviour.

the reasoning behind the change (i also disagree with it) was that many adware programs did overwrite the keyword preference and there was no obvious way for users to recover from that.
Oh, thanks! You've made my day. IMHO the better solution would be to add some configuration option for the address bar search engine in browser configuration wizard. This new "feature" makes search bar useless, as for me.

That allows you to use the two bars independently again, so you can change the search bar its list options without it breaking the address bar.

Absolutely no reason to install another add on if you don't mind typing a single letter before you search terms.
Click the search engine drop down in the search bar, and click manage search engines.
Select the search engine you want to use.
Add keyword. This can be a single letter. For google I use g.
Now in the address bar just type g and then your search terms. Automatically searches using google.
You can add a single letter keyword to all of your search engines. No need to keep going back into an add on to change your search engine. Just type a single letter in the address bar before your search. Easy and every engine you have a keyword for can be called this way.
