Hello,

Since it took over an hour to send an email from my gmail address the other night andsince I have tried unsuccessfully to create an @outlook.com address in Internet Explorer 8 I would like to use Mozilla to create a free reserve email address. Is it possible to do this in Mozilla instead of using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer 8? Thank you for helping a real dummie when it concerns creating a reserve email address.

Kind regards, Edwin

To display the Bookmarks Toolbar in the toolbar area, you can use either of these menus:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar
  • tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars

As a shortcut to Yahoo mail, you can use this URL:

https://mail.yahoo.com/

As a shortcut to Gmail you can use this URL:

https://www.gmail.com/

You can add those to the Bookmarks Toolbar by dragging the link and dropping it on the toolbar. To shorten the name, right-click the bookmark and choose Properties. Then edit Name (not Location).

Regarding Thunderbird, if you've never used it, I think you can go ahead and remove it.

You can use any number of free email providers. If Gmail and outlook didn't work, try yahoo, aol, etc. Mozilla doesn't provide emails.

Also, please update your Firefox to Firefox 21 Update Firefox to the latest release

If I could use my yahoo email address (or perhaps it should be account?) with Mozilla to send emails from that would make me very happy. How do I get my yahoo email address usable when I open Mozilla Firefox? If I succeed in doing that I shall make Mozilla Firefox my primary browser and only use Google Chrome for gmail.

Hi EdReff, what do you mean by "usable"?

To change which mail provider is used by links in web pages and by the "Email Link" feature, check out this article: Change the program used to open email links.

By the way, you can set your Gmail to forward a copy of every message to another mailbox. It may confuse the sender to reply from that second account, but it reduces the number of inboxes you have to check during the day.

I have gone to Tools, Options and Applications, and chosen Yahoo for mailto actions. How do I open my yahoo email in Mozilla Firefox so that I write and send a yahoo email?

Enter yahoo.com in the address bar and then navigate from the Yahoo home page. You may want to bookmark the login or mail page, or make it your home page, for easier access.

like Jscher said, you can just go to the website of the email provider and use it there. Just like you can go to www.gmail.com, or www.outlook.com, www.yahoo.com. Firefox is a web browser, not an email client (thunderbird is that). I use gmail every day in my Firefox by just going to the website address of gmail.

I downloaded Thunderbird to be able to send yahoo email from there. However I cannot as Thunderbird says "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for yoúr email account". I cannot at all understand that. Since gmail has not functioned satisfactorily for me of late I want a second email address to be able to send from when I cannot use gmail. That is why I am desperate to get yahoo to work in Mozilla Thunderbird. I very much appreciate all your help.

If you are accustomed to accessing your email in a browser -- for example, your Gmail account -- you can use Firefox to work with Yahoo mail through its online webmail interface. Did you try that first?

I believe Yahoo requires a paid upgrade in order to use a POP email client like Thunderbird. http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com/

The yahoo email works but I am so confused I am unsure from where. I have been able to both send to and receive at my yahoo address. Now I am exhausted and must get some sleep. Tomorrow I shall give you all the credits you deserve for your kind help and patience. Also I shall make Mozilla Firefox my primary browser if I can send from yahoo there.

Can I access both my yahoo email and my gmail in Firefox? It would be great if that is possible. If it is what do I do to be able to access my gmail in Firefox? Should it not be possible then I only want to be able to access my yahoo email in Firefox.

I am delighted to be able to use yahoo in Firefox though I have difficulty finding yahoo inbox on the start page. The procedure I have followed so far is that I have gone to a recently opened yahoo email (in one of the squares shown amongst for example the one for google) and there clicked on Show all yahoo mail (or something similarly worded). If there is an email icon on Firefox I would like to find it.

Since I can send and receive with yahoo in Firefox do I need Thunderbird? If not I would like to remove it from my computer.

I would like to see a toolbar which shows the bookmarks I want to use most, not the pages I have recently visited. In Google Chrome I have that by going to "Manage bookmarks" and there entering the pages I want to have in the bookmarks toolbar.

I am happy to get more and more able to do what I want to do in Firefox, which is now my primary browser.

I am most grateful to you for all your help.

Thank you for all your assistance. I have now managed to import my contacts from gmail to yahoo and to put both gmail and yahoo up in the bookmarks toolbar. I shall do later what you explained for me in your last reply. Now I am going to go through all the answers and give credit if that option is available (I may have confused this with another forum's options). Anyway I am most satisfied with Mozilla Firefox and if the option is there I shall add Firefox to my list of likes in my Facebook. I no longer need to use any other browser and shall move all the others on my screen into the old/discontinued shortpaths file.
