Does anyone know if this: http://downloadandsave-a.akamaihd.net/ Is vital for firefox, or even if it is fróm firefox?
I recently removed : downloadandSa from my desktop via ccleaner. I didnt think it didnt anything and it just looked suspicious.
Now however I notive that in the top left corner of firefox I have the F from my flashblock appearing.. when i hover over it it says its' http://downloadandsave-a.akamaihd.net/
Browsing a bit learned that akamaihd is a bunch of stuff that supports the internets workflow in videos/chats/forums etc.. is this correct?
Is this dowloadandsa a part of firefox? How do i get it back if i need it?

I don't ever put things in quarantine , it's mostly if not always faulty stuff so i get rid of things all together. and this was also malicious. but it wasn't where Ihad expected it to be, namely within my firefox as an add on/extention!!
culprit was the folowing : an extension called Download and Sa 7.1 from the source Download-and-save -Dot- Com. Mallware basicly
I have absolutely no idea where and how I picked that up, or how long it has been there or on my system since I only noticed it being blocked by flashblock after removing it manually. could well have been a long time.
Again thanks alot, I now manually removed the extention alltogether.

No, I do not think it's part of Firefox.
Akamai is a content distribution network used by lots of websites to improve performance. Unfortunately, unless you can research what you had in a ccleaner quarantine or in the recycle bin, we might never know exactly what it was.
If you have an unexpected bit of content appearing in Firefox, it could be from an add-on. You could disable ALL nonessential extensions on the following page, restart Firefox, and see whether the blocked content disappears:
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

I hope that by disabling add-ons you have not been lulled into a sense of false security.
I began using the add-on Flashblock, which replaces Flash objects with a button so you can choose whether to run them or not. Using it, that Flash button the original contributor described has appeared in the upper left hand corner of every page, with few exceptions.
I clicked it once and it began an automatic process (opaque to me, I am afraid) that involved redirecting the browser to https://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/e6a00/storage.swf.
This means that if I had not been running Flashblock, EVERY PAGE would be directing to this site automatically. This particularly includes pages with passwords, including email and financial pages. I would like to be able to trust Firefox with these but cannot until this can be resolved.
I now use Chrome for anything requiring a password until I can solve this but would like to return to Firefox because its feature set is much better.
Any advice or solutions? Thank you.
