I've never had trouble with Firefox before. I was using 14.1 when it stopped showing everything the way it was supposed to. I scanned for a virus, rebooted my machine, turned off the plugins and nothing worked so I decided to try Safari. I set up the plugins I wanted etc., used it for a while and decided I liked Firefox better. So I pulled up Firefox and pushed the reset button. This made it worse! I had checked for updates and it said I was up to date. To make sure, I went to Firefox download page and found an update. I downloaded it and the new version was just as bad. So, I decided to upload Firefox 15 - everything was still a mess. Check boxes don't show on any sites but if you remember where they are the spot will still work. Colors are showing up. Everything looks stripped to the bare bones. I deleted Safari and Chrome - I've canned my entire computer for viruses, file fragments, etc. I don't know what else to try! I'm disabled so my browser is my link to the world! I love Firefox when it works - please don't make me go back to IE!

I have finally fixed the problem! I'm using Windows 7 and evidently something messed up in there. I ran system restore (typed in start search field) back to 7/15/2012 and Firefox is now working. Have no idea what the problem was. Hope it doesn't start up again when I get another Windows update.

Everything was going fine until I updated to Firefox 14 - then it all started over again! Don't update to 14 !!!

Sorry, I already did everything on that page. Thanks for helping.

I also went into windows, searched for high contrast and turned that off.

If you are uncertain about what plugins do, you can disable them and see if you notice anything missing. You also can disable all other add-ons that are not essential.

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons

Check the Appearance, Extensions and Plugins category. After restarting Firefox, do you notice any improvements?

I am having the same troubles. Some websites freeze and stop responding all together. I scanned for viruses and male ware and nothing came up. Now its so bad that I can't even use firefox to search the web anymore I am stuck using Google chrome for now. everything was fine until the last new update was released 14.0.1 I sure hope they fix the problem soon. When I close firefox and reopen it the menu bar resets it self back to the way it looks after a fresh install. I have a sync account. I wonder if that has something to do with the problem. I disabled all plugins and now it seems to work. seamoneky is doing the same thing also. I did some trouble shooting and there seams to be a problem with the shockwave plugin, because it works when its disabled and stops working when its enabled.

Hi giganut, I think you might have a different problem, since this thread is about missing parts of pages when they are displayed in the browser.

Could you start a new question? When you put in keywords such as freeze, you should get links to some troubleshooting articles. If those don't work, continue down to the blue button to start a new thread. Please include your system information in the form.

Hi giganut, I missed the part about the Shockwave Flash plugin (I assume it's Shockwave Flash and not Shockwave for Director). There are some compatibility issues between the latest Flash player and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Could you see whether anything in this article helps: Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox.

If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you might also consider disabling the new protected mode in Flash 11.3, since that feature is currently being debugged. See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

Hi Mysty333, you can award yourself the solution for this thread!

You also can set your Windows updates to give you the choice to install them individually. Then you can review and do them in little groups. For example, separate the system updates from the IE updates from the Office updates, etc.

Thanks, but, I don't know how to do that . . .

To change your Windows Update settings, try this:

Start Menu > Control Panel > Windows Update

Under Settings, change from Install updates automatically to Download updates but let me choose. Then when you get the notification, choose Custom to make your selections.
