After removing the new-tab feature I get a 'Problem loading page' message in stead of a blank page.
I followed the steps on the help page to remove the new-tab feature which I absolutely hate. So now there's "about:blanc" in the address bar as before, but now I get this 'problem' message and I just want my blank page back.

Hi,
You can try to Reset it by right-clicking on it. You can also try to enter about:blank as the value.

I replaced 'blanc' by 'blank' and that solved the problem. Thanks for your help.
Just a bit of background information. The instructions are here:
- Customize your Firefox New Tab page
- the icon top right in the new page toggles the feature on and off
- There is no need to use the complicated about:config method, unless it is required to permanently turn the feature off, possibly for privacy concerns.
