firefox not diplaying search results, only ads by google

A few weeks ago I downloaded firefox, and was displeased to see that I was not getting any search results, except for ads by google. I have no problem getting search results on internet explorer. I have now upgraded to firefox 10 in hopes that my original download was the problem. I still get no search results. What can I do to make this work?
