The details are in the question. It happens every time and with every account as I have several. It never happened before the latest "upgrade." I can still access the accounts with IE or Chrome so the accounts are fine.

Using Safe Mode is a diagnostic to see whether disabling add-ons solves the problem. Since it is intermittent, it's a hard case. But I think if this was a problems in the core of Firefox 7, there would be posts every 5 minutes by Gmail users from every corner of the planet. So that's why I suspected an add-on.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

1. Clear Firefox's Cache

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"

2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here

While viewing a page on google.com, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try Gmail again. Does that help?

Clearing the cache did nothing but removing about 40 cookies seemed to have fixed the problem - until it crashed again several times. No, it did not fix the problem. Ron

Could you try disabling add-ons?

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, restart Firefox using

Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled

Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently in the Safe Mode dialog if you didn't back up; just "continue in safe mode."

Does that make any difference?

Yes but it also will work for a while in normal mode - then it just crashes. Right now I'm in normal mode and it is working but I've been here before.

Yes, I figured that. I have disabled the two add-ons that related to gmail and we'll see how it goes. FYI the two were webmail notifier and better gmail2. I'll report back if no problems resurface with those disabled.

For whatever reason any gmail add on causes FF to crash at this point. I tried the ones I had, one by one, and also tried another, gmail watcher. Every one crashed the program. Never had this happen before but there is obviously some incompatibility with my gmail setup. Thanks for the help.
