Whenever I try to open Firefox, it crashes and won't open. Keep getting the crash reporter. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice but it didn't help. Followed instructions on your site for disabling add-ons and turning off hardware accerlation. Firefox doesn't crash in Safe Mode. I'm using the latest version of Firefox with Windows XP. Thanks

Your Malware undetectable by most anti-malware programs (because randomly named) is still present and has other hidden symptoms.

If this Malware is a Rookit, try this free Kapersky's tool.

Check and tell if its working.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Yes, I tried this, didn't you read my post???

So, were you able to determine the cause of the crashes?
You didn't mention if you checked that further.

Is it caused by an extension or possibly a problem with the graphics display driver?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files

No, I was not able to determine the cause of the crash. I tried all those things and they didn't work.

How can it be an add-on, theme or extension when I had uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice? It was back to its original settings. I didn't keep any of those when I reinstalled.

I did not check the graphics card update because it says only do that if the hardware accelleration change fixed the problem. See above in your quote "If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver."

I made a new profile and that one crashes, too.

Also, I ran McAfee, Malwarebytes and Webroot Spysweeper and they found nothing amiss.

I am already moving on to slimbrowser....much less headache as it turns out. It's a shame because I have used Firefox for many years and recommended it to everyone.

Since you mentioned in your Question that Firefox is NOT Crashing in Safe Mode that's why i gave you the link to check your extensions for it.

Determining if Firefox can load in Safe Mode

Check and tell if its working.

Does it help if you disable hardware acceleration and start in regular mode?

more options

I just said, I reinstalled the program twice and did not save any extensions, add-ons or bookmarks. It is back to the original default setting. There are no extensions, so how could they be causing the problem?

more options

For the third time, no, unchecking the box about hardware accelleration did not help.

What do I do when I get the crash report? It's at https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-50e38523-4322-4935-ba61-fb1652110921

Firefox works in safe mode....

IF Firefox works in Safe Mode and you don't have any Addons/Extensions/Themes/Plugins installed then do the following in your newly created profile (as suggested by Cor-el in his 2nd reply)

Resetting Preferences

Check and tell if its working.

Yep, did that already, didn't help.

It didn't work, either :(

Does anyone know what the crash report is for and what I should do with it?

Thanks!

-> Restart your System in Safe Mode

-> Uninstall your current Firefox & Remove User Profile Data

-> Download latest Firefox version from one of these links using some other Web Browser:

-> Install Firefox using the downloaded & saved Firefox installer file

Check and tell if its working.

I already uninstalled and reinstalled it twice, though, so I don't really see the point in doing it a third time.

-> Is my Firefox problem a result of MALWARE ??

-> Do a MALWARE check with these Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all

programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their Databases before doing a Scan. Also, Close All other Applications (softwares) before Starting to Run Scans.
