How to get preview windows to remain over Firefox icon?

Up until I stopped using Firefox v3.6 all preview windows were displayed directly above the Firefox icon I have pinned to my taskbar. This is how all other programs behave too. Since v4.0 when I open Firefox a second icon appears in the taskbar and the preview windows appear above that.

Apart from the fact that I only need 1 icon for Firefox, having 2 makes me inadvertently click on the other one from time to time whish results in a second copy of the browser opening.

How can I get Firefox to stay with 1 icon and display its previews above that please?
