After updating 3.6.11 on a Mac OS X 10.6.4 the bookmarks dissapeared. I can restore them but they dissapear every time I close Firefox window. Tried installing it again. Any suggestions?

Happened only with this one computer. The organize bookmarks window doesn't let me view any bookmarks so I can't export the restored bookmarks to html format. I can only see the restored bookmarks in the drop down list. Kept a bookmark backup file safe if even they vanish.
