Firefox reset itself after update, profile data gone

more options

Hi

I've just booted my machine and opened Firefox, only to be presented with a completely fresh install.

All my settings, bookmarks and history gone. It was fine yesterday when I closed it and powered down.

I'm running Kubuntu, I've checked the .mozilla folder and nothing...it's like my profile has just been overwritten.

Not happy at all, I'm starting to dislike Firefox.

Can anyone offer any help or advice please?

Thanks in advance.

I've just found my profile in the snap package directory, I've now configured my apt/discover utility to favour installs from Mozilla instead.

Why it failed on this machine I have no idea, everything is back as it was.

Thank you

If you try the steps in the first section of the following article, are any other profiles available: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks?

Is there any way to do a global search for a profile folder file such as places.sqlite?

Hi there

I've tried that, however looking at both available profiles my previous data is no where to be found.

Firefox has just written over my profile, no matter which profile I choose none of my data is there.

My laptop which has the exact same setup updated fine 😒

As a Windows user, I'll just smile and pretend I understand that. ;-)

But seriously, did your system's app updater somehow switch from one type of package to another overnight? That could wreck a lot of peoples' day.

Lol I'm used to Windows myself but dislike Windows 11 hence the switch...

It certainly seems like it decided to switch from Snap to regular *.deb installs

I'll keep a close eye on it, at least I know what to look for in future. Oh and to stay away from Snap packages haha

Thank you for taking the time to reply, really appreciate it 🙏
